NEW CONTEST FROM MS. JANIE
As we all know predicting the future can be fun as well as down right scary! I have designed a fun method for us to stay busy during the month of January, which will result in your participation and end with TWO grand prizewinners. The number two was selected because of the year 2002, the second year in this decade. Prizes will not be disclosed at this time but if any of you are familiar with my past contest you know how generous they can be. I can tell you that the prize boxes will contain at least 10 items or more EACH!

Families, friends remain true to loved ones' traditions
From: Ms. Janie
Three months after Cecile Caguicla's death, her friend and roommate for the last 25 years still catches herself driving to the station to meet her train.

Cheryle Sincock

Family and her collections were what mattered most to Cheryle Sincock, 53, of Dale City, Va. Her husband, Craig, believes the two passions went hand in hand.

Cheryle Sincock grew up in rural Minnesota in a family of 13 children, and she didn't have much as a child. It was not until the last few years of her life, after her children were grown, that she began to collect in
earnest. First it was Beanie Babies, then furry bears. Most recently she collected china dolls.

Her husband, who travels often for his job, once endured many strange looks from fellow passengers when he lugged a 3-foot-tall doll onto an airplane. "She said they were for the grandchildren, but those china
dolls were for her."

Taylor working hard at just being a kid
From: BeaneWonderland

After surgery for an abdominal tumor, six rounds of chemotherapy, radiation treatments and two stem cell transplants, Taylor was headed to New York, where she was going every three months to undergo antibody
treatments at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. "She's always drawing hearts, flowers and people," said her dad, Jeff Johnson. When she draws people, they're always smiling. That's really amazing. For a
kid who's been through so much, you'd think she'd be drawing all mad faces, but everybody's always happy in her pictures." Drawing is one of Taylor's favorite things, along with the television show Rugrats, the movie Shrek, Barbies, Beanie Babies, stinky (Swiss) cheese, her cats, Lovey and Sweetheart, and the pink blanket that she
always brings with her because "it smells like home. Full Article:

Get involved and become part of John's traveling Unity project! The following is a MUST read!

Right On The Money
From: Beanieholics
On December 19th we posted a note from a retailer friend of ours that contained info from their Ty rep about upcoming Ty releases. How accurate was the information? Right on the money. The one thing that
sticks out to us in hindsight is that we were told a week and a half ago that Ty would be making the 2002 newbie announcement a few days before January 1st. The note accurately predicted nine new Beanie Babies and
described and/or named four of them. Also six of the new Beanie Buddies mentioned were named correctly. Plus the news that the first mainstream boy Beanie Bopper would be announced and that Ty would be releasing some
Ty Classic dogs made from the new Baby Ty material came to pass as well. Scroll on down and reread the retailer's note.

Rejected gifts go online for auction
It's a profitable way for recipients to deal with unwanted presents "A lot of people don't necessarily want to go to the malls and fight the crowds to return things," said Nancy Gallinghouse, a spokeswoman for Yahoo, the most-used Web search service. "This is a way for them to make a little extra money."

About 3,000 items were listed on Yahoo's unwanted-gift site last year, and more than that are expected this year, Ms. Gallinghouse said. Among the items already placed up for auction are a laptop computer, a bamboo steamer set and Beanie Baby dolls.

"Hearts Behind the Holidays: Families Adjust to Christmas in Hospitals"
Bonita Daily News
By Rachel Webb
Editor's note: Hearts Behind the Holidays is a six-part series that looks at how people celebrate, endure and work through the holiday season in Southwest Florida.

"The halls at The Children's Hospital are brighter at this time of year. Shiny tinsel and decorations hang from every wall and ceiling. The smell of baking cookies wafts through the air and nearly every day means a visit from St. Nick. .... But creating an ordinary Christmas can be daunting when dealing with patients facing serious health problems. For support, families of hospitalized pediatric patients are invited to Christmas dinner at the Ronald McDonald House, King said. .... "We very much try to normalize the experience," King said. "We also have to balance that sometimes with understanding some families are in crisis." .... The Children's Hospital has been busy with events. The week before Christmas included visits from members of the Florida Everblades, parties and toys donated by a Cape Coral chiropractor. .... On one December day, Ernest Risley exchanged his chiropractic services for a new unwrapped toy. He collected $1,000 worth of gifts; one woman alone brought in 50 new Beanie Babies." HAPPY DAY AFTER
So you survived the Christmas holiday?! How many of you will brave the cold and crowds to do the after-Christmas shopping today? LOL I know I won't be. It's 24 degrees here and I have all 3 kids at home and 2 have colds. I hope you had as much fun with your holiday as we did. The kids made out like bandits again as they always do. Grandma gave Jennifer & Robbie Game Boy Advance for Christmas so they have been playing practically non-stop since yesterday. LOL For those of you that worked so hard to get things together for a fun and successful holiday.. I hope you are taking a much needed rest today. :o)

OUR CHRISTMAS TREE
I thought I'd share our Christmas tree with you. I took this picture on Christmas morning. The kids had so many presents to open. We had great fun!! I enjoyed watching the kids as their faces lit up even more with each present they opened.

I just love those Jingle Beanies!! I had just over 2 sets on our tree. I decorated with those instead of Christmas balls. The cats always loved to get the balls off of the tree so we'd have to go around the house and find them to put them back on the tree. I took their game of kitty soccer away from them this year. LOL

I would love to see another bunch of Jingle Beanies next holiday. I hope Ty is listening. ;o)

COMMENTS ON ORDERING THE MC BEANIE
Hi Lisa,
Read your newsletter and the article from Bean eWonderland about Alan's problem getting MC Beanie.  I just sent an email to Richard explaining how this process works.  Here is what I sent:

Hi, I saw the article by Alan regarding his problems with MBNA in getting MC Beanie.  To start with, they don't issue you any coupons unless this is something new that they just started doing.  I have already received the 2 MC Beanies that I ordered thru MBNA Ty Program.  Once you have attained enough points (and you have to receive the statement for that period) then you call the toll-free number on the back of the Ty MasterCard.  Get ahold of an operator at MBNA (which takes listening to quite a few menus and pushing numbers a couple of times) and tell them you want to redeem your points.  I called on November 23rd and redeemed my points for 2 MC Beanies and was expecting to have to wait 6-8 wks per Ty but received them much sooner (probably around 3 wks, but since I didn't mark the date down that they arrived, I can't say exactly).   There are no coupons, they just send out the MC Beanie.  He arrives in a small box in your mailbox.  And if you order two, you end up with two boxes in your mailbox.  I was hoping to receive a brown nosed one but both of mine have black noses like the one I received when I first used my Ty MasterCard. Vicki

Barbie has legs

MC Beanie
From: BeaneWonderland
From the email: Hi! I thought you might like to know about the MBNA "process" on redeeming points that you earn using the card.   I was very fortunate (or unfortunate) to have made several large purchases early on earning a large of number of points to redeem so I was able to redeem different TY reward items each of the last 3 months after receiving my October, November and December statements.

The first thing to know is that you cannot redeem points until after a statement "closes" which meant I was unable to take advantage of some late September purchases until the end of October (my statement period closes on the 22nd).  However, you can redeem the same item multiple times (or at least I have been able to) and there seems to be no limit on how many MC Beanies you can get (at least until they are retired).

The problem that I have ran into is that my case is a very rare occurrance so most of the MBNA customer service reps have no clue what about the Ty Points program and no clue how you are supposed to redeem your points.   The first time I called in late October I was supposed to get my coupon in "a few weeks". The second time I called in late November to redeem another MC Beanie I had still not received my coupon and was told that "it had never been processed".  The second order was placed and I was told I would receive it in 7-10 days.

I called again 2 weeks ago and was again told the same thing
that "it was being processed" and I should receive very shortly.  I even got the name and number of the customer service specialist who seemed to have a clue about the TY card.  Today I called and talked to the same person who could not believe that I had not received anything and I was told "that my case was rare and everyone else was getting their coupons promptly."  She took my number and was going to call the "program manager" to get an answer.

Late this afternoon, I got a message telling me my coupons were not "lost" but that it takes 8-12 WEEKS for the coupons to be sent to the card holder.  Essentially, the points I redeemed in late October will be sent to me in the form of a coupon by late January and then I have to send the coupon in another location to get my redeemed item taking who knows how long (another 8-12 weeks?) so I am looking at 4-5 months to receive a MC Beanie or any other Ty Reward product (which sounds ridiculous to me and looks like I am getting the run-around.)

I am planning on calling next week to get further clarification, but I thought you might want to know since I am fairly sure there are not many other card holders to this point yet.  Since it appears to me that MBNA has not figured out how to the points program is going to work yet, there may be others out there who can share their experiences. Thanks Alan

December Finds Canadians With a Hunger to Spend
From: Ms. Janie
Canadians have shrugged off months of bad economic news and low interest rates are making them hungry to spend, a December survey from the Conference Board of Canada released on Friday showed. "Consumer confidence rebounded in every region of the country," said Kip Beckman, senior economist at the Conference Board, a private-sector think-tank. "Canadians' buying plans haven't been this high since 1997. Despite grim economic news, Canadians still feel it is a good time to make a major purchase," Beckman said. U.S. pride decks the halls
From: Ms. Janie
Patriotism has found an outlet in holiday displays around town, from the City of Lights' red, white and blue theme and sparkling flags on business buildings to tricolored icicles on homes. William "Doug" Barrette, a resident of Alpine Apartments, held a party at the end of November and invited neighbors to bring Americana trimmings for a patriotic tree on the third floor of Building 5210. Many apartment residents turned out, as well as firefighters from Station 4. "I didn't want to do a fund-raiser," Barrette said. "I just wanted people to come and put an ornament on the tree depicting the U.S.A." Barrette, 77, moved to Alaska from Mississippi in 1953. The former executive chef and his wife, Pat, raised seven children here. The tree, which can be seen from the parking lot at 5210 Mockingbird Drive, has red, white and blue lights, blue garland and a white skirt. People continued to add red, white and blue Beanie Babies, flags and ornaments made by children in the complex in December. http://www.adn.com/alaska/story/740671p-788814c.html

HOW TO REMOVE PRICE STICKERS
From: Smart Collecting
If you are ready to wrap up your holiday presents but are faced with the difficult task of removing those nasty price stickers, help is here! All you need is a hair dryer and perhaps some Goo Gone (available in Walgreens and other drug and discount stores.) Simply heat up the sticker by blowing hot air with your hair dryer onto the sticker. In just a few seconds, you will find that it can easily be peeled off. If any sticky residue remains, just apply a small amount of Goo Gone to a towel and gently rub the remaining residue away. It's fast and easy! From Alberta with love
From: Ms. Janie
Two days in Afghanistan, and just three hours of sleep. On Monday, pre-dawn, a groggy Sean Campbell and a handful of fellow Albertans bearing gifts joined a convoy of Iranian charity workers and police on a dusty road west into the hills.

At the end of the road, an Afghan refugee camp and a scene of almost absolute misery. Thousands of men, women and children huddled and coughing in a freezing wind, surrounded by reeking makeshift latrines hidden in the dunes.

"It's better than the last time we were here," said Campbell yesterday, shouting over a crackling satellite link in a tent on the Iran-Afghanistan border.

He had illustrious hosts for dinner last night: the local governor, security brass and the head of the Iranian secret police. "But I've never seen a reaction from refugees like I saw today."

He wasn't the only one seeing something new. The refugees at the Mile 46 camp have witnessed many bad things: famine, disease, family members torn to fragments by landmines and American bombs, public executions.

Yesterday was the first time any of them had seen a colouring book.

"They were ecstatic. It was incredible," said Campbell.

"We met one 13-year-old girl with children of her own. We gave her a shoebox filled with crayons, Beanie Babies. She looked at it for a few seconds, she didn't know what it was. And then, the look on her face ... the joy, I can't describe http://www.canoe.ca/EdmontonNews/es.es-12-19-0012.html

Wings' visit sweetens kids' hospital stay
From: BeaneWonderland
Alicia Alwood has made many trips from her home in Mt. Pleasant to Children's Hospital of Michigan. The 5-year-old has water on the brain. She has had 17 surgeries at Children's in the past three years. The Red Wings were making their annual visit to Children's, and Alicia knew she would see an old friend, her favorite player, Jiri Fischer. Sitting in a stroller because she can't walk, Alicia waited for a while. Then the door swung open. In walked Mathieu Dandenault, Boyd Devereaux and Fischer. The room, packed with patients and their families, erupted in applause. He gave out Beanie Babies and American flag bandanas, all donated by Jerry and Robin Sindici of Plymouth. The Wings passed out team photos. Full Article:

Bobblehead mania hits Mellon Arena tonight
From: BeaneWonderland
As far as promotions go, it doesn't get much bigger than this. When the 17,148 fans attending tonight's Penguins game against the Montreal Canadians enter Mellon Arena, they will be greeted by an eight-inch doll. Hockey and dolls aren't two things usually associated with each other. No Penguins player has ever been featured on a bobblehead doll, and hockey bobbleheads are more difficult to find than those featuring football, basketball or baseball players. Once a staple of sports fans' mantles in the 1960s, bobbleheads have made a comeback in recent years and now equal Beanie Babies as the hottest promotional item for professional sports teams. Young Vista filmmaker to be featured Friday on TV
From: Ms. Janie
JP Saalfield is a young filmmaker who not only writes his screenplays but also directs, produces and acts in his productions. Besides putting together full-length feature films, short films, music videos, and commercial videos, this 15-year-old Guajome Park Academy student still finds time to do his homework. "I love to do it all," said the teen-ager of his film-making during an interview at his school's production studio. "I don't have a big plan on how I'll make it, I just know I will. I have a passion for film and so that is what will ensure my success. Hi Randy...Talked to my Rep this afternoon (briefly, because her cell phone kept cutting out) and she told me about some of the January releases. There will be nine new Beanies, Buddies, Classics and Boppers. Not sure about Attics. Here is what she relayed to me:

Beanies: St. Patrick Day bear...white with green shamrocks
Easter bear.....Eggs 2 (aqua)
2 Valentines Day bears -
(1)White with little pastel, multi-colored hearts
(2) Red and pink with hearts on the feet
Buddies: Shamrock in 3 different sizes
Smooch
Sizzle
Eggbert
Boppers: several little girls and one Boy (finally!)
Classics: Dogs in the same material as the new baby Ty

There were more, but as I said, it was hard to hear with the phone cutting out. She also said that she will have pictures in about a week, so it looks like Ty is finally going to start announcing things a few days before the first. I will let you know what else I hear because I should be talking with her again in the next day or two. Happy Holidays to you and your family. ~T

These releases all sound very interesting and we look forward to see just how accurate your rep is. We remember seeing a prototype for Erin at the Tyrrific store in Chicago's O'Hare Airport and always wonder why Ty never released a white bear with a green shamrock. We really liked it.

NO NEWSLETTER YESTERDAY
I didn't send out a newsletter yesterday because there wasn't anything to share. News is really very slow right now. Other sites are posting info about their sites and such because there's just nothing of interest out there. LOL If you have ANYTHING at all to share.. pictures of your Holiday displays which include Ty items, stories about your Beanie hunts, family traditions, ANYTHING at all... please share. I'm sure we would all love to see what people do during the holidays which incorporate your Ty products.

eBay 'History'
From: Doodle's Page
If you are an eBay 'user', you may find this article interesting:

"EBay was founded in 1995 by EBay Chairman Pierre Omidyar, as an online clearinghouse for his then-girlfriend's collection of Pez dispensers. An immediate hit, the Web site branched into other collectibles like Beanie Babies and antiques, then into an array of more-practical categories such as consumer electronics, pet supplies and music. The company was taken public in September 1998." Click here to read the article

.. Happy 9th Birthday to my son, Robbie..

Some requests deeply touch Santa's heart
From: BeaneWonderland
This is the eighth year running that Wayne Tooman of Muscatine has played Santa Claus. He has many boys and girls tell him if they have been naughty or nice, and what they want for Christmas," he said. This year, it's been cowboy outfits, skateboards, Harry Potter games, real horses, real puppies, Beanie Babies, play stations, Pokemons, Power Rangers, computers, dolls, clothes ... "And many more wishes, hopefully to be fulfilled." Eyes glistening, he describes what he calls "the pinnacle point" of his time as Santa. "One request really touched the heart of Santa. A little girl, 6 years of age, told Santa that all she wanted for Christmas was "peace on Earth and good will to all people." He said he asked her what personal thing she wanted. "Only what I said,' she replied." Full Story:

Press Release from Herrington's Teddy Bear Club
Costa Mesa, California
Date: December 15, 2001
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Harry and Hannah Herrington Travel to the North Pole

Costa Mesa, CA -- December 2001—There is someone hanging out at the North Pole besides Santa this winter. Herrington Teddy Bears announces the “new” release of 2001 Harry and Hannah North Pole Adventure including Reindeer.

Everyone knows Harry and Hannah, the Herrington twins who made their most impressive debut at the International Collectible Exposition this past June. This winter they are dressed appropriately for the North Pole. Both cubs are wearing white bib overalls and fancy hooded parkas. Harry’s parka is royal blue with a matching striped knit scarf while Hannah’s is wearing a powder pink parka with a matching striped knit scarf. Both parkas are fully lined with satin, and trimmed in white fur. Like most of Herrington’s bears, each is sequentially hand-numbered and are limited to ONLY 150 sets.

Harry and Hannah won’t be traveling to the North Pole alone. Oh no! Santa is missing one of his reindeers and Harry and Hannah will be returning him. He stands 10” tall and has a flexible skeleton making him completely poseable. He is a right clever old chap decked out in a red suit and matching stocking cap, just like Santa. This character is limited to only 120 pieces.

"Harry and Hannah are part of the Herrington family," said Chris Herrington, designer and founder. "They are our first borns if you will. We are excited to watch them grow and take on new adventures each year."

This is only the third version available of Harry and Hannah. The original 18" version is a limited edition set of only 1,000 bears. These honey colored bears, with ruggly-style fur are clad in stonewashed dungarees detailed right down to their tiny buttons.  Harry sports a red T-shirt while Hannah can be seen in a white T-shirt with tiny pink flowers.
In time for last Christmas, Harry and Hannah Holiday in New York set are dressed to the hilt in New York fashion. This fashion forward duo is limited to 300 each. This set of bears is just like the originals, crafted of the old- fashioned ruggly-style fur and are fully jointed. However, this young brother sister team are clad in red knit, black velvet, and leopard print. As they cruise through the streets of New York City on their way to Tavern on the Green for lunch, all heads are turning. Quality design and craftsmanship are key to all of Herrington's designs. They are a must see.
All three Harry and Hannah sets can be purchased or ordered by stopping by www.teddybearclub.com or by calling (800) 942-4498.

For more than fifteen years, Herrington's Teddy Bear Club has designed and produced Signature teddy bears for respected, high profile companies around the world such as, Hard Rock Cafe & Hotels, Cheesecake Factory, Giorgio Beverly Hills, Cartier, Mercedes Benz, DFS and Tavern on the Green in New York City.

A NOTE FROM MS. JANIE
Ok I'm going to go out on a limb and say the following Although I think Ty has done a great job in recapturing our attention this year I would like for them to review some of their 1998 and early 1999 achievements. Start dropping more hints in the Info. Beanie dairy about retirements, retire in larger groups and release new product less often or at least spread the goodies further apart. Some attention may also need to be given with shipments. Many retailers are still looking for Jolly Janie and Holiday Heidi. I loved the release of the JingleBeanies and believe they were VERY popular. Maybe we can expect more of the same in 2002. The People's Beanie vote was cool; maybe this can be a yearly feature with newer designs introduced. For the first time the Ty website introduced an on line contest that proved to be very popular, will they follow suit in 2002? I personally believe that Ty is listening and will continue with whatever works! His goal is to keep his collectors happy and continue to crank out desired styled Beanies. I think Germany needs another exclusive badly and expect an Australian exclusive to be released sometime soon. I'd LOVE to see a NASCAR bopper! I believe there are many NASCAR fans who would grab at the chance at this opportunity. There are many drivers to chose from and millions of fans just waiting for their release. Ms. Janie

Group sews up giving
From: Ms. Janie
Candy canes, chocolates, crayons and dolls were stuffed into stockings at Dubuque Sewing & Vacuum Thursday. The piles of stockings grew as the assembly line of Pfaff Club members, who had sewn the stockings, filled them. Paula Zwack, owner of the store, said in September the club decided to make the stockings for needy children. Thursday was time for more than 60 women to show, tell and share. "Oh, look at that one!" said Judy Ruppel, of Dubuque, as she held up a white quilted stocking with a golden reindeer embroidered on it. Florence Errthum, of Bloomington, Wis., took the stocking from Ruppel. Errthum placed a handful of chocolates inside, then admired the stitching and fabric before passing it on. "They are all so pretty," Errthum. "I enjoy this." Phyllis Tschiggfrie, of Dubuque, stood on the opposite side of the table. The bells hanging from her red reindeer antlers jingled as she placed some final sweets into the stockings before a Beanie Baby or doll topped the tasty loot. http://www.thonline.com/News/12142001/TriState/74652.htm

Santa visits Dunlap

Santa Claus came to Dunlap last Saturday and the jolly one was a busy fellow as more than a 160 children visited with him. Santa fills Butler home with holiday cheer
From: BeaneWonderland
This time of year Santa Claus is the most visible guest at Stephen and Jarolyn Butler's home in Bolivar. When the Christmas season rolls around, Jarolyn is strategically placing more than 30 Santa Claus figurines in every room among trees, ornaments, lights and tinsel. Like Beanie Babies, the plush figurines are collector's items and an investment that matures over time. Most cost between $300 and $450, but like every collectible, the prices can and do climb higher. Full Article:

Broadbent’s annual holiday fund raiser begins

(Try the clearance rack at KB Toys) Unlike previous years, this Christmas season is not being dominated by a single hot toy that every child has on their list, say relieved retailers. "There is no Cabbage Patch Doll this year," said Michael Johnson, a buyer at Sears. "When you don't have a hot toy, parents tend to stick with traditional brands such as Barbie, Lego, Crayola ..." Other recent toy crazes include Tickle Me Elmo (1996), Beanie Babies (1997) and Furby (1998). Click Here For Article

More new Beanies ... and Buddies?
From: Doodle's Page
Yesterday, Martin passed along information to us that Ty Japan has announced a new set for retailers to order, called the Red Cross Set (see below). He had earlier passed along some additional information, which sounds quite interesting.

Hi, Since there is not much going on in the news I thought this would spice it up... Ty has the following 3 New Beanies and 2 Buddies in the logistics center...
Romance Style #4398
Cupid Style #4502
Kissme Style #4504
Smooch Buddie Style #9430
Sizzle Buddie Style #9432

... Martin

Doodle's Note: This infomation should be considered unofficial, of course, until released officially by Ty. Something to think about, at any rate! Guess we shall wait and see! (Of course, we DO know Cupid has now been introduced and showing up at some retailers already.)

She toys with children's happiness
From: Ms. Janie
A young child was shown on a 20/20 newscast sitting alone in a cold, harsh corridor of a police station. He had been pulled from his home without notice because his parents were unable to care for him.
Toy Safari owner Helen Mertzig stared at her television and wondered how long that child had been left sitting with nothing to do. He looked frightened and bored. He needed comfort and care. Mertzig wanted to rescue him.
She contacted Sara Tanenhaus of the Family Preservation Program at the Child Protective Services Agency. Since that day six years ago, Mertzig has given her heart and thousands of toys to the children in child protective services and foster care.
During the Beanie Baby craze, Mertzig donated Princess and Erin Bears for each of the schools to raffle. "Schools are always in need of money. The bears were an easy way to do good," she said. View article HERE

Web designers inject youth, energy
From: Ms. Janie
The story of Oak Ridge-based Custom Internet has a familiar ring.
In 1997, two 18-year-old college freshmen launch an Internet company in the basement. After months of hand-to-mouth, they land big Web-page design accounts with Alstom Power and Nashville-based Ibis Communications. They move into an office, hire designers, technicians, a writer. One founder buys a house. They order new BMWs.
But unlike many of today's youth-driven high-tech companies, Custom Internet's founders aren't putting their homes up for sale or laying off employees.
Since August, said Ross Croley, president and CEO of the company, the company's sales have just skyrocketed.
Custom Internet now employs 11 people, and Croley said he expects revenues for the end of the fiscal year to reach $1 million. Primarily a Web design firm, the company has also branched into marketing and business strategy with a list of clients that also includes Goody's Family Clothing, Titan Systems, Boston Whaler, Home Federal Bank, Knoxville Utilities Board, Environmental Systems Corp. and the University of Tennessee.
Custom Internet's beginnings, however, were a bit more tenuous.
Croley, now 23, and Ben Fiedler, the 24-year-old chief technology officer, launched their business when Croley volunteered to create a Web site for the Italian Market and Grill, where he was working as a bread baker.
The two had met in a computer programming class at Farragut High School. Croley said he did a lot of cheating off Fiedler, who had been honing his computer skills since his dad brought home a PC when Fiedler was nine.
Croley, on the other hand, preferred more entrepreneurial endeavors, including a gumball-machine route and selling Beanie Babies out of the trunk of his car.

"I TO RAN INTO A PROBLEM WITH AQUIRING AN AMERICAN BEAR FROM A HALLMARK STORE THEY HAD LOTS OF NEW BEANIES OUT THE HOLIDAY ONE, AND I BOUGHT SOME AND ASKED IF THEY HAD AMERICAN BEAR THE MANAGER SAID YES ; BUT ITS IN THE STOCK ROOM AND I AM NOT BRINGING THEM OUT. NEEDLESS TO SAY I WAS UPSET ; SHE SAID SHE HAD ENOUGH NEW BEANIES OUT AND WOULD SAVE THESE FOR WEEKEND. BOY WAS SHE EVER DEALING WITH THE WRONG PERSON LOL. I USE TO MANAGE RETAIL AND MY DAUGHTER MANAGES A HALLMARK STORE IN ANOTHER STATE SO I TOLD THE LADY TO BRING THOSE BEARS OUT AS THEY ARE TO BE SOLD . YOU WILL PROABLY LOSS YOUR CONTRACT WITH THEM ,STOCK CAN'T MOVE SITTING ON SHELVES.WELL NEEDLESS TO SAY THE 6 AMERICAN BEARS CAME OUT AND MYSELF AND 2 CUSTOMERS WHERE ALLOWED TO PURCHASE ONE EACH. BEANIES SURVIVE FIRE
From: Ms. Janie
Hi Ms.Janie....an article in the Northern Virginia was interesting this morning. In Front Royal a family lost most or all of their home in a fire Sunday. The fire seems to have started in an electric baseboard heater. A twelve year old girl...Tiffany Baer was home with her niece and nephew ages 9 & 4 when the fire was discovered. They tried putting it out...but then Tiffany got the younger children out....had a neighbor call 911 as Tiffany continued to get the family pets to safety. Her mother didn't care that they didn't stop to save "stuff"...but that all were safe...The fire didn't dampen the families Christmas spirit as shown by the three TY beanie babies that survived the fire that Rachel Baer...the other sister...placed on the burned out windowsill of her bedroom (the fire started in that room...Rachel also said this is one reason why everyone should keep their room cleaned up!) The bears are sitting on the windowsill with an American flag. There with Old Glory sits the beanies names Angel, Hope and Peace. I wish I had a scanner to send the photo from the newspaper to you...the mom and daughter are in front and the beanies behind them! Have a good day and thanks again for all you do...Hugs, Cathie

Beanie Baby Con Woman Accused of Identity Theft

THE SUN HERALD
By ROBIN FITZGERALD

BILOXI - A woman who served time in federal prison for not delivering Beanie Babies she sold on the Internet is now accused of stalking and stealing the identity of the investigator who helped send her to prison. Connie Marie Olson, 34, and her mother, Sandra Ann Olson, 56, are being held by the U.S. Marshal's Service on charges of making threatening or harassing phone calls to Robert Kay.

A history of her legal troubles, beginning in July 1998, can be found in the article linked below. Click here to read the article

High school Santas help needy children
From: Ms. Janie
A toy truck, children's clothes and stuffed animals were on high school senior Sylvia McCormick's Christmas shopping list this year. Other teen-agers bought Barbies, books and remote control cars. Students from Glencliff and Hillsboro high schools have become Santas this Christmas for about 80 kids from Edgehill Center's child-care program. Each first-period or homeroom class collected a wish list from one child, raised about $50 and shopped for as many gifts as that money could buy. On Friday. the teens delivered the gifts, which won't be opened until Christmas. They also brought small gift boxes filled with yo-yos, coloring books, Beanie Babies and candy canes for the kids to open right away. ''I just really enjoy seeing the smiles on their faces when I get to come and give them presents,'' McCormick said. View article HERE

MORE IRRITATED RETAIL CUSTOMERS
I have searched in our area for the America Beanie.  The Hallmark store here also saves their America Beanies for select customers.  Also a lot of the other ones, especially the new ones when they first come out.  To date, I have yet to get the America.  This is very unfair.  I always thought my money and someone elses money was the same.  I guess not!  They have also done the Jingle Beanies (bears) this way.  The Clubby IV kits have also all been opened and the buttons examined.
Thanks,
Polly, Texas

From: BeaneWonderland
Santa Claus isn’t the only special attraction at the Le Mars Art Center this Christmas season. To add to the enjoyment, the center is sponsoring a Holiday Collection Review. Beanie Babies have been a “hot” collectible and Michele Britton is an avid collector. Starting in 1995, she only purchased the ones she liked. Britton was thrilled that there was a collection her children liked and the items were very affordable. As friends and family learned about the Beanie Baby craze and Britton’s interest, they would pick ones up for her. Little by little the collection grew and it was only with the announcement of the Ty “The End” bear that Michele and her family decided to quit collecting. Full Article:

IRRITATED AT TY RETAILERS
Alanna shares this at the Planet Beans Yahoo! Club
I went to one of my local ty retailers today. While I was in there looking for beanies I saw the manager so I asked her if she had gotten in any America bears lately. She said yes and smiled. I asked her if she had any left. She said yes BUT she only sets one out a day and no more. I said oh, so I can't buy one? She said no, I really can't because I already set 2 out today.

Basically, this manager denied me the right to buy a beanie that she has for sale. Not only that, she told me she only sets one out a day but made an exception that day and sold 2. Why couldn't she have made an exception for me, too? I am so irritated and it almost makes me want to quit with beanies if I am going to be treated like that by retailers. :(

Planet Beans Comments: I would be irritated too!! Did this retailer not realize this is a bear being sold to HELP people?

I experienced something similar myself just yesterday. I went to the local Hallmark store in search of Kiss Kiss bears and Sizzle and Poofie. I found Sizzle.. gorgeous bear!! A lady and her son were behind me in line when the store manager walks behind them and says, "Are you looking for another Beanie that is very hard to find and begins with an 'A'?" The lady quickly jumped at the idea and told him she was indeed looking for the "A" Beanie. He went to the back and got one for her all hush-hush. Came to the front and put it in a bag so nobody would see it. While I was at the register checking out I asked if he had any more America Beanies. He told me that that was from "his own personal collection". I asked if he happened to have just one more and he said he didn't.

I don't like shopping at a store where people are given preferential treatment over one another. I didn't get the idea that he knew this woman but he may have. The fact that he's keeping his America Beanies in the back is wrong. This bear was meant to be available to EVERYONE and I don't believe Ty would tolerate this.

If you've experienced a similar situation and would like to share it.. please send to Lisa@planetbeans.com. You can also send a complaint to Ty about any particular retailer at NameNames@tymail.com

It's a Boy Jingle
From: BeaneWonderland
From the email Diane writes: I rarely get interesting beanies, but I think I have resolved the issue of the gender of the 98 teddy Jingle. I bought this because I loved it's eyes and thought it was cute that it had a red berry where the mouth should be.  Did I look at the rest?  Obviously not. To view the image please Click Here: Diane has now placed this Jingle beanie for auction and the image and auction page can be viewed by Clicking Here:

Foster Kids Shop for Goodies at Christmas Store
From: Ms. Janie
Five-year-old Timmy was lugging a giant shopping bag from room to room, pointing at toys and stuffed animals and clothes he wanted. How about that box of plastic food items from McDonald's Happy Meals? Or the Power Ranger T-shirts and underwear. Into the bag. Timmy was just one of hundreds of foster children who went shopping at the Christmas Store, which opened on Saturday. Here's how it works. The store, a joint project of the Utah Foster Care Foundation, The Christmas Box House International and Salt Lake County Children's Shelter, is actually a large, vacant home at 8052 S. Highland Drive in Sandy. Use of the house was donated by Bob and Carol Meyers. Each room is piled high with new and used items also donated to the cause. Toys, jewelry, clothing, furniture, stuffed animals, stationery, luggage, soaps and bubble bath beckon to the excited foster families. Each child, parent or sibling is given 200 points to spend. A Beanie Baby or basketball might cost 25 points; 50 points will buy perfume, a CD or a big stuffed animal. Each person is also entitled to certain free goods: a hygiene kit, an outfit of clothing, a quilt for the whole family, and as many three-ring binders and luggage as they want. http://www.sltrib.com/12092001/utah/156398.htm

BEAUTIFUL HOLIDAY DECORATING
From: Ms. Janie
Hi Ms. Janie Oh the fun we have had doing our Christmas decorations this year. The jingle beanies just add that extra touch to the Christmas tree. Last year was our first Christmas with beanies and this year is even better - wonder what Ty will have in store for next year. I just had to share our pictures with you and hope you and all the other readers enjoy them. Not long to go now until Christmas and I just know we shall all have a very happy one. Love and hugs Karen and Dave (UK)
