Action Figures, Sports Cards, and Beanie Babies
From: Bean eWonderland
In 1999, Gareb Shamus, a leading figure in the pop collectibles industry, decided fans and dealers were ready for an online marketplace where they could buy, sell, and track the value of their latest-craze collections. Springboarding off the success of his decade-old Wizard Entertainment magazine publishing venture, Shamus secured an additional $4 million in funding and dubbed his online paradise for collectors WizardWorld.com. WizardWorld is currently expanding its original online content and they are looking to recruit freelance writers to cover recent news about collectible comic books, action figures, Beanie Babies, fantasy games such as Magic: The Gathering, and more. FBI Bust Online Fraud Ring
From: The Daily Bean
      Investigators from both the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the State of New Jersey are in the process of corralling a group of Internet grifters who swindled approximately 175 people online, according to published reports.
      After setting up a phony PayPal Web site, the con artists sent e-mail to an undisclosed number of people that read: "We regret to inform you that your username and password have been lost in our database. To help resolve this matter, we request that you supply your login information at the following Web site."
      The site remained up for nearly two months before a New Jersey detective caught wind of the situation. According to news sources, two suspects based in Brooklyn, New York, have already been apprehended, and more arrests are apparently in the works. One of the suspects is presently on probation for another Internet-based con. Full Story & News Source

THEORIZING TY TRADE
From: Ms. Janie
Ms. Janie, This is Just a Hunch But I have a feeling That Ty posting the auction for the Paul Glaser signed Ariel might signal the end of the run of Celebrity Autographed Ariel Charity auctions at Tytrade. What more fitting and appropriate way would there be for Ty to end the run then with The Ariel Bear signed by Ariel's Father Paul Michael Glaser? I also Think that Ty will probably Retire Ariel soon. Ty has never had 2 bears for charity available to the public and current at the same time ever. If Ty did have 2 charity bears current and available it would seem like a conflict of interest to me? If Issy can be ordered by Ty retailers and with the official announcement of the release of Issy to the public coming from Ty soon, It is my guess that Ariel will be retired prior to Issy 's official release. What are your thoughts on this? Your Bud, Sly The Beanie Guy
=====
I think that Sly's theory is well thought out and is possible but when it comes to Ty's new philosophy to expect the unexpected, I do just that! Although Ty Trade had experienced problems in the past it does appear that the site is fully functional and they have done a remarkable job in earning a lot of money for this charity. Maybe it is time to move onward and upward and Issy would be the next logical choice. Here's hoping for more exciting signed auctions from Ty Trade and that what ever the next charity may be, it makes a lot of money for a worthy case. Ms. Janie

RESULTS OF YESTERDAYS BONUS ENTRY:
THE QUESTION:
How many Beanie BUDDIES do you have?
(I have 77 Buddies) LOL.. I just had to share these comments about how many Buddies: The numbers range from 0 to 265. The same lady who has 1,971 Beanies is the one that's also lucky enough to have 265 Buddies. WOW!! I wonder if she has a "beanie" room. LOL Sounds like she needs a Beanie HOUSE!!

This from our anonymous beanie lady: "Lisa - I do have a "Beanie" Room. Of course, I also have beanies in almost all rooms of my house as well. Don't tell anyone who I am because they will not THINK I am crazy - They will KNOW that I am crazy. (LOL)"
~~~
"Man these add up fast. Don't tell anybody I have that many or they will think I'm crazy!!"
~~~
"I was going to guess at how many I have and it was 18, but then I counted. Oh my! I have 59, they are growing from every area in my house! LOL! All regular size, except for 1 large Peace."
~~~
"I have so many Beanie Buddies I am afraid to count them!"
~~~
"Lots and lots. Frankly I've never counted then. But I have them all except for the country exclusives and five of the Jan 2001 introductions. I also have doubles of several. Also have the large and extra large of Schweetheart and Valentina and large of Libearty. I have so many babies--what's a mother to do???? They are overrunning my shoe. Pretty soon I will have to move out. "
~~~
"How many Buddies do I have??? A room full! I have all the buddies so far (some in "twos":) ) except for Black Batty, Britannia, and the wingless Quackers! (and hopefully, I'll eventually have those:) )! OH and then there's the different sized buddies . . . I have six of those! I only have one Jumbo sized - I got a Jumbo Schweetheart with Christmas money :) ! That Jumbo Schweetheart sure would like a Jumbo Valentina to sit beside him :) ! It's rough being the only BIG Buddy in a room Full of Little Buddies! :) "
~~~
"Well, I have only 16 buddies. There is just no room. Bears, cats, and of course Lefty, Righty, and Libearty. HOWEVER - I will MAKE room for Jumbo Valentina!!! And her little sister regular size Valentina has already been telling everyone that her big sister Jumbo is going to come live here. They all have the fingers crossed for me! ROTFL!"

if the Pack Rat becomes the next Beanie Baby...
From: Ms. Janie
Pack Rat toy makers hope to funnel money to Lambeau Field project If things go his way, a Wisconsin pizza delivery man will strike it rich selling stuffed toys called Lambeau Field Pack Rats -- and hundreds of thousands of dollars will be donated to help pay for Lambeau Field renovations. Dan Henning of Oshkosh and his partner, Randy Franklin of Anchorage, Alaska, intend to dedicate $4 from the sale of each $24.95 Pack Rat to renovating the storied Green Bay Packers' home. The Pack Rat is a 9-inch cuddly rat dressed in Green and Gold and packaged in a box that' s a replica of Lambeau Field. The two have even recruited Steve Lambeau, the grandson of Packers' founder Curly Lambeau, to help launch the venture. Henning said his decision to donate some of his potential profits for fixing up Lambeau Field is his version of a Packers tradition of passing the hat to save the team. " I can' t claim to be a businessman. I am a Packers fan, " Henning said. " Yes, we live in a totally different time. Football is big business. But due to the fact the Packers are fan-owned, we are the guardian of the Green Bay Packers legacy." Pat Webb, executive director of the Green Bay-Brown County Professional Football Stadium District Board, the administrator of the Lambeau Field renovation, said if the Pack Rat becomes the next Beanie Baby, it could raise hundreds of thousands of dollars to retire stadium debt. http://www2.startribune.com/stOnLine/cgi-bin/article?thisStory=83635138

PAYPAL UNDER FIRE AGAIN
From: The Daily Bean
Losing faith in PayPal Aggressive anti-fraud tactics at the first widely used online payment company are spurring a consumer backlash. Feb. 23, 2001 | Stoney Brody wishes he had never discovered PayPal. At first, he was enthusiastic about the e-mail payment system: PayPal made it easier to collect money from his online clients, who pay Brody to invest in gold on their behalf. The drawling Texan once even considered himself quite a fan, convincing more than 200 other people to join the network. But Brody's devotion turned to disgust last November when PayPal started freezing access to deposits to his account. PayPal, unlike credit card companies, "didn't even bother calling" to discuss the questionable charges, Brody says. Instead, all he received was a form letter stating that PayPal had handcuffed the cash in order to investigate "possibly fraudulent funds." Then, in February, came the real deal breaker. PayPal refused to release deposits totaling over $20,000 even after Brody sent verification information proving that his customers used their own credit cards (rather than stolen ones) to secure PayPal acounts. At that point, Brody contacted the FBI and decided to sue, not just to recover the cash in his account, but also for $400,000 worth of lost business. http://www.salon.com/tech/feature/2001/02/23/pay_pal/index.html

Buckingham Delivery Mistake?
From: Bean eWonderland
We have received a report stating that many retailers throughout the UK are still waiting on a delivery of Buckingham Buddies. Deliveries for the orders placed at the UK show were promised in 7-10 days, but in many cases are now late. From what we have been informed and this is only a rumour, the warehouse sent out Buckingham Buddies in 6's instead of 3's which it was supposed to do and supplies have run out. One retailer has informed us that they received 6 Buckingham Buddies and they did not attend the show, something that infuriates retailers who make the effort and receive their orders later than others.

Congratulations to Sally Winey:
From: Ms. Janie
Sally Winey is featured in the April edition of "Collector's Mart" magazine. If you have the opportunity to visit your local bookstore you may want to check out this special issue. I subscribe to this magazine and have found it full of interesting information and news along with fantastic photos.

Sally is featured on the cover and there is also a four-page spread on her and her accomplishments. The article also includes some great photos and inside information never shared before.

Her bear Theo is also featured in the magazine, what makes this special is she signed and dated one as a prize about a year ago and one lucky collector of my website now has it in their possession.

Winey's new line designed for Cascade Toys has been very popular! "Blossom Bears" each has a different flower theme, such as Sunflower Bear, Daisy Bear and Dahila Bear. These are cute and highly collectible. Check out Cascade Toy for additional information. http://www.cascadetoy.com

INTERESTING ARTICLE at THE UNDERGROUND BEAN
A new Featured Article entitled "Watch Out" is online now for viewing.

With the Beanie Baby and like products becoming increasingly volatile daily, people are resorting to other means to get your business ... some are less than honest.

Everything from known counterfeits bean bags to laser tagged and switched tagged beans.  Counterfeits are big business, but this doesn't mean that the seller always knows that his or her product is a counterfeit, it merely means that whomever is producing them is making a decent profit on them otherwise they wouldn't sell them.  People inevitably get a hold of them and whether they know or not, they sell them to others, and until the manufacturer of these items are shut down by Ty, Inc the counterfeits wont dry up.  But it is not as simple as saying "shut down", it takes a good bit of detective work, finding the manufacturer, finding the distributors of the items, bringing the authorities in on the problem, and finding enough proof to make sure that they don't open up a month later.  This brings up a new problem though, just because Counterfeit manufacturer #1 is shut down, doesn't mean that they wont have someone else to watch in 3 months.  It is relatively simple to get started ... tear apart a Beanie Baby and viola' you have a pattern right there.  Getting the material is nearly as easy.  The tags however are a different story, if you want it to appear authentic, the tags have to be good ... that is where laser tags can come into play. Scammers Alert
From: Bean eWonderland
It would seem it is not just the people who sell and trade Beanies that have to be cautious of scams these days. Webmasters are now being hit by advertisers who refuse to pay. I myself have been let down in the past month by another advertiser, this time it was a pay per click scheme in which they 'claim' to have lost 3 months worth of figures due to a server crash. Vavo.com are the people and after speaking to them on the telephone and getting nowhere, I would like to know if anyone else out there has had problems with non paying affiliate schemes. It is these schemes that help pay for prizes and the running of a lot of web sites.

Teenie Beanies In 2001?
From: Beanieholics
There is the possibility that we will see Teenie Beanie Babies again. If McDonald's does decide to repeat the promotion then it will happen late this year and not in the Spring. HappyToy.com has posted a list of Happy Meal promotions for 2001 and Teenie Beanie Babies are penciled in for November 2 through November 19. The site does say, however, that they have received feedback that questions whether the Teenie promotion will take place or not. Click Here To View List

Earnhardt memorabilia fetches top dollar
From: Ms. Janie
A search for Dale Earnhardt souvenirs on the Internet auction eBay Tuesday evening turned up about 66,000 items. ``We don't have any way of measuring for sure,'' said eBay spokesman Kevin Pursglove, ``but it's definitely doubled since his death on Sunday.'' Intense bidding was driving prices skyward. A miniature die-cast edition of Earnhardt's famed #3 Monte Carlo sold for $2,000 Tuesday afternoon. Dealers say it would have fetched about $30 last week. A framed, autographed photo paired with a 3-inch-square piece of an Earnhardt car went for $999. Similar items sold for $299 before Christmas at the Field of Dreams store in Norfolk's MacArthur Center. A racing uniform once worn by The Intimidator went for $9,100 after a furious round of bidding. An autographed Daytona 500 ticket stub sold for $1,625. A life-sized cardboard cutout used in a beer display went for $177. Then there were the pocket knives ($61), clocks ($250.99), banks ($202.50), golf putters ($122.59) and more. Prices were up in some local stores as well. Field of Dreams had just two autographed Earnhardt photos, but the store made the most of them. http://www.pilotonline.com/business/bz0221ear.html

ISSY NEWS

Hello Everyone!
         I know some of the Beanie sites are "down" for maintenance right now and not everyone may be able to post this, but I wanted to share an e-mail I received on Feb. 20 that I thought was newsworthy. I hope I have everyone's e-mails correct as I have not written some of you before. When Issy was announced several months ago, there were (and still are?) many people speculating as to the availability of the bear. Controversy (and some rather mean words) flew back and forth over what was to be a CHARITABLE Beanie Baby that was supposedly available EXCLUSIVELY to guests of Ty Warner's hotel. I had contacted the Four Seasons through their Website and received a reply from Mr.Wolf Hengst, the President of Worldwide Hotel Operations for the Four Seasons. He explained that Issy was a "hotel exclusive" (at that time). Mr. Hengst must have saved my e-mail address because I received the following yesterday:
===============================================================
Dear Mr. xxxxxxxx:

Thank you for your inquiry regarding the Four Seasons Beanie Baby, Issy Bear.
In response to the overwhelming interest from Beanie Baby collectors everywhere,
Issy Bear will soon be available at all licensed Beanie Baby retailers.

As you may know, Issy Bear is dedicated to Christopher Sharp, Four Seasons
founder and CEO Isadore Sharp's son, who died of cancer in 1978.  Issy Bear was
created to raise money for cancer research.  Issy Bear has quickly become one of
Ty's most popular creations, and wider retail distribution will further help
raise funds for this very worthwhile cause.

Ty will be donating proceeds from the sale of all Issy Bears sold to the Terry
Fox Foundation, which is dedicated to raising funds for cancer research.  We
hope that you will soon be able to enjoy your very own Issy Bear and help us in
the challenge to advance the strides forward in cancer research.

Sincerely,

Wolf Hengst
President, Worldwide Hotel Operations
================================================================
     Although there has been no "official announcement" (NEWSFLASH) from Ty Inc. yet, we know from reports at the Toy Fair that Issy was seen on display. This e-mail from Mr. Hengst pretty much confirms (in my mind anyway) that ALL of us should see Issy soon. Anyone who was lucky enough to get the "hotel" version at whatever price they may have paid, then I congratulate you. I am grateful that Issy is now going to be available at retail for all of us! Although I do have to wonder if Ty Warner, the "marketing genius," had this planned all along? By causing controversy/discussion over the initial release of the bear, he may have succeeded in raising awareness of the need to find a cure for cancer.

Sincerely,
Marc

Sakura Buddy Pictures
From: Beanieholics
Beans Tokyo has shared some pictures of the new Sakura Beanie Buddy that include the hang tag and a look at the Ty booth at the Tokyo Gift Show. As for the Sakura Buddy, what a beautiful bear! Thank you for your well wishes, prayers, and e-cards. I really appreciate the thoughtfulness of the Planet Beans readers. Without going into detail, as I'm too tired to do so right now.. I will just say he's doing pretty good and has eaten a few things this morning like eggs and cheese grits. He even snuck a grape from my plate at the cafeteria and ate it whole. LOL He's not drinking too much right now and that's what he really needs. I'm giving Tylenol every 4 hours for pain. I'm hoping he will take a nap soon so I can get some sleep. I held him about 98% of the night as he was very restless which meant very little sleep for me. :o) I'm too tired to update and go in search of the news right now. Fans Rush for Earnhardt Merchandise
From: Ms. Janie
The Dale Earnhardt rush is on. Anything and everything with his name on it became the country's hottest sports merchandise a day after his death. T-shirts, jackets, hats, posters and die-cast replicas of his famed black No. 3 Chevrolet were among the Intimidator's items cleared off store shelves. Getting hold of the memorabilia became a challenge at best. In many cases it was impossible. Mike Wininger, a manager of a Kmart near Daytona International Speedway, said anything adorned with Earnhardt's name left ``by the buggy-fulls'' Monday. ``As soon as everyone heard, they were like vultures,'' he said. It was the same situation at the Phoenix International Raceway Shop, where fans bought more Earnhardt mementos in the first hour than they normally do in a month. ``I had people waiting when I came in this morning,'' said Steve Ward, the shop manager. One woman who was too sick to make it to the store called to say she had $300 to spend on Earnhardt items. ``She wants one of everything,'' Ward said. There was still plenty of merchandise for drivers such as Jeff Gordon, Bobby Labonte and even Dale Earnhardt Jr. But nothing with the seven-time Winston Cup champion, who died Sunday after crashing on the final turn of the final lap while Michael Waltrip was racing to victory. ``Our phones are ringing off the hook. Everyone is sold out,'' said Fred Wagenhals, president of Action Performance Companies, licensed to make and distribute Earnhardt merchandise. http://library.northernlight.com/EC20010219760000042.html?cb=0&dx=1006&sc=0#doc

Congress debates Internet taxes

Now that few people think twice about buying books on Amazon.com or bidding for rare Beanie Babies on eBay, the New “E”conomy is sparking a fight on Capitol Hill over who can tax online commerce and how to do it. Traditional bricks-and-mortar retailers and state and local governments say the tax system now favors online companies and hurts the coffers of states, counties and cities that depend on sales taxes to finance their budgets. Trade Boards will Suffer
From: Bean eWonderland
Many of you who have converted message boards for trading beanies need to find another alternative before March 5th. Inside The Web probably the most popular out there is closing. They state, "As some of you may know, internet advertising revenues have fallen to extremely low levels over the past several months. Supporting a community service such as InsideTheWeb is impossible without a secure source of funding and we are being forced to close our doors. While there are certainly other means of generating income, we do not have the ability to address them without sustaining significant losses in the foreseeable
future".

Buckingham Report
From: Bean eWonderland
We have been sent a couple of photos of the new Buckingham Buddy, a close up of the tag and badge. Reports have arrived that Ty accounts across the country have started receiving this bear. Deliveries of 6 are being delivered and not 3 as expected, maybe this is not the case for everyone, it could be just that priority are getting them in 6's. In some cases, they are being delivered separately from Beanie orders with the 6 arriving in a larger non-Buddie box. Again I don't know how common this is occurring but it is happening this way. Buckingham Beanies are still being delivered, just for how long this will continue is unknown. View Images:

THE DEATH OF A LEGEND
My heart and prayers go out to the millions of Earnhardt fans worldwide and to the families affected by this terrible tragedy. Racing has mourned the loss of one of the greats. http://www.nascar.com/2001/NEWS/02/18/earnhardt_stewart/index.html

Meeting Ty Warner!
From: Collectiblez
Many yearn to meet Ty Warner at the New York Toy Fair! Guess who met him by sitting next to him on the airplane home! Diane from Illinois shares the following: I asked him (didn't know who he was) if he was in NY for Toy Show. He said, "how about you". I told him we were there for the Westminster Dog Show. I said "wouldn't it be something if you were Ty Warner". His friends said "he is" at the same time he said "I am". He really blushed! I said you're kidding -- I'm sitting here with two famous people -- my girlfriend just won Best of Breed at Westminster for Jack Russell Terriers. He asked if she was on the plane, so I introduced them and they chatted about dogs. Her daughter blurts out she "quit beanies" last year, then we told him our personal beanie story over the last 6 years, which he seemed to enjoy. Everyone settled down on the plane, took naps, etc. After we landed I wished him a good 2001 year. He said "thank you, you too". He is soft spoken, and kindly. He speaks with enthusiasm when talking with the people he knew on the plane, also returning from the toy show. My other impression is that he is a good listener because he seemed to listen so intently when conversing with his people. No one believes me that is was him just because he was flying Coach. It was him, though. Seems like a nice person.

New Baby Ty Hang Tag

Recipes like BEANIE Surprise,
From: Ms. Janie
what will they think of next? Recipes are serious business. In our family, it was Aunt Patty's Baked Beans. We'd chew carefully and speculate. “Well, there's definitely chili powder,” my brother Steve said. We ignored him. Years of smoking has incinerated his taste buds. My cousin Lydia detected a hint of mustard. Not much help, we told her. Is a hint more than a teaspoon? Aunt Patty would just smile. Finally, we wore her down. Maybe she got tired of being the Bean Queen. Maybe she was trying to inspire a generation who had begun to take unconscionable short cuts, showing up at picnics with buckets of chicken and store-bought dinner rolls. Anyway, she caved. She gave it to her sisters, who gave it to their daughters. And so forth. Soon, it could be found in cookbooks published by churches and fire stations with titles like Butterbean Blowout and Beanie Surprise. Tragic. http://enquirer.com/editions/2001/02/18/loc_pulfer_chicken.html

The Beanie Mobile
From: Beanieholics
No, no, no, we are not talking about a car for Beanies but a mobile that hangs from the ceiling. There is a mobile that comes with the new Ty 'Point Of Sales' Kit that is available to retailers and one of our readers has seen it:

I have seen the future and loved it! I have seen the Beanie mobile! It's part of the new P.O.S. kit. I didn't get pictures but I can describe it. First it has a Ty heart with gold trimmings at the top. Next, two rainbows. Then a hologram oval with a Beanie Babies logo in the middle. Underneath it says Baby Ty, then around everything it has four separate logos. One for Attics, one for Beanie Buddies, one for Classics, and one for Beanie Kids. It spins very well and to top this all off I got the Ty retailer bag (which I could get pictures for you) and for $10.00 (retail price for P.O.S. kit) I could buy one from a retailer they knew who ordered 3. You just have to see it to believe it! --Jamie

Aliso Viejo, CA - JUMBiES SERiES TWO has sold out!
All SERiES TWO orders have either shipped or will be shipped in the next two weeks. However, there will be more on the way but with a small change. The Coyotah's ("Riley" Coyotah) hang tag will be different from the one shipped (or will be shipped) to stores. The "current" Coyotah has a typo on its hang tag. The Coyotah's name "Riley" was misspelled as "Rlley". This obviously will make this Coyotah version very rare. There are still some of these Coyotahs in stores and some still on the way. However, our retailers will never have these "RLLEY" versions of the Coyotah again.

JUMBiES SERiES TWO include the following characters:

"Riley" Coyotah (Coyote + Cheetah)
"Leopold" Leopird (Leopard + Horned Bill Bird)
"Filbert" Blabbit (Bluebird + Rabbit)
"Darwin" Duckey (Duck + Monkey)
"Corky" Pigbit (Pig + Rabbit)
"Arthur" Camelot (Camel + Ocelot)

School bus driver assaulted boy, warrant says
From: Bean eWonderland
A Windsor father swore out a warrant for the arrest of an Isle of Wight County Schools bus driver Thursday, claiming she assaulted his son in a dispute over a Beanie Baby. The incident started after the boy offered to repair a Beanie Baby, a beanbag doll, for a girl on the bus, according to Floyd. The girl had given it to another boy on the bus and that boy had ripped it apart. According to the son's account, the bus driver demanded that he give her the toy. But when he refused, Lawrence grabbed him by the arm and collar and tried to force him back into a seat on the bus. When the boy wriggled free and darted off the bus, Lawrence chased after him, according to the charge. Full Story:

Ms. Janie's Counterfeit Page:
From: Ms. Janie
This page has been created to help you avoid purchasing fake Beanies. When you compare the quantity of Beanies that Ty manufactures, a very small percentage end up being sold as fakes. To protect yourself, and become educated, know what to look for! There are many variations and even errors on some of Ty's authentic designs. In most cases, Ty's hang tags and tush tags could be your best defense. I am not in the business of authenticating Beanies. I will view pictures and read comments sent and then voice my opinion. I will try to assist you in the best way possible. http://www.msjanie.com/fakes/fake_page.html

Top Sites
From: Bean eWonderland
It has been a while since I have griped about the top sites, for example, the Beanie Top 50.  I have noticed that another web site Undergroundbean has announced their decision not to list with any of them after finding yet another cheat. The truth of the matter is you really do not need them if it is visitors that you are looking for. We received between 1476 and 2184 unique visits a day for the past week, figures that we were still getting whilst we were part of the various ranking systems. Real figures, not figures boosted by Pokemon, auctions and other various tactics used by some sites. In fact looking at the top 50 sites list there is only Randy&Theresa in the top 5 who are 100% honest and Beanie related, they do not use rating systems from Pokemon, trading cards and other various material.

Buckingham Buddy Arriving
From: Bean eWonderland
Hi Richard, I had to let you know first, I got Buckingham Buddy this afternoon, the shop had 6 in the delivery and I was charged £40 but didn't have to buy anything else. Buckingham Buddy looks just like the scanned picture on e-bay and nothing like the version pictured on some sites. I live in the West Midlands. They had no Smooch beanies.

ISSY CAUTION
From: Bean eWonderland
Hi Richard, I don't know if you can do anything, but I am sure that a Scam is going on with an eBay seller. Look up Nimrod12 auctions for Issy.  He is advertising his location as United Kingdom/London, but he is in fact in Florida. Some of those bidding ridiculous amounts are new bidders from the UK and I fear they are being ripped off. Can you think of anything we can do to help them? regards, Jim (Bean eWonderlands comment - I would advise extreme caution on this one, nearly all the positive feedback for this person has come from the same person or people who look to have been suspended. The seller could be genuine but if you are bidding on one of the auctions I would advise some serious homework before you part with any money).

Issy Caution Update 1
From: Bean eWonderland
I read your article on NIMROD12 and I commend you for being polite on your site about this person when we all know that it is a scam in progress. I am sorry but there is NO WAY one person can have 20+ ISSY bears on auction... think about it, you can only obtain ISSY for now by staying at the hotel, only one bear PER STAY, do the maths... YIKES! I just don't get these silly people not checking things out before they bid their hard earned $$. I have emailed SafeHarbor on this person with what I feel is happening, I hope a few more people do the same.
I wish I could say I feel this person is genuine but I cannot and I hate to see so many people scammed! We WILL be reading about this person on www.traderlist.com

Issy Caution Update 2
From: Bean eWonderland
I wish to remain nameles but I think Jim is right about the Issy auctions as the person who gave nimrod12 all his ratings also has 148 Issy's on auction one auction alone is a dutch auction for 96 of the bears he also has mutiples of Buckingham buddy for auction people should beware.

Issy Caution Update 3
From: Bean eWonderland
Reply from nimrod12 "That is my auctions that you people are slandering and we are selling authentic ty issys. we have a very reputable buissness here in florida. we are here everyday from 10am to 8pm everyday." (Bean eWonderlands comment - We are sorry if you are a genuine seller, but there was no slander being used, all I stated in yesterdays article was that you "may be genuine but if you are bidding on one of the auctions I would advise some serious homework before you part with any money". This should be the case for anyone bidding on an aution. Verdict - Still be cautious).

Former President Bill Clinton and Former First Lady, Hillary Rodham Clinton Make Off With Beanies!
From: Cajun Connection

New questions have surfaced about whether former President Clinton and the former first lady, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton  removed even more government property from the White House than previously disclosed, NBC News reported on Friday. The new questions came to light after a government list of furniture the Clintons returned to the White House included not only $28,000 in gifts listed on their financial disclosure form, but six additional items and several Beanie Babies the former first couple had not previously reported taking with them, NBC reported. The report identified the newest items in dispute as  Beanie Babies, a gaming table inlaid with the presidential seal, a television armoire, two prints and two tables. The National Park Service said virtually all the items taken and returned were, in fact, government property, according to NBC. To see the rest of this story go HERE

NEW HANGTAGS?
From: Ms. Janie
Hi Ms. Janie!
Word on the Beanie trading boards is Nipponia has had a hang tag change. Supposedly Nipponia Now has the 2001 hang tag that says "beanie baby" on front and Not the 2000 hang tag which says "2000" on front across the star. There are several people posting about these and offering these Nipponia with the new hang tags up for trade. I have not been able to confirm this hang tag change to Nipponia thou! Maybe you can? If this hang tag change on Nipponia is true then maybe Ty won't be retiring Nipponia any time soon? I wouldn't think Ty would bother to change the tags if it was retiring. Ya Never Know with Ty Thou-LOL Maybe one of your newsletter subscribers can confirm this hang tag change To Nipponia and send you a scan? Your Bud, Sly The Beanie Guy

TEDDY BEAR PROJECT TO HELP KIDS
From: Ms. Janie
Robin and Caitlin Phelan's teddy project provides the bear essentials to needy kids in the Boston area.

How The Teddy Bear Foundation Works... The primary activity of the Teddy Bear Foundation is an annual holiday teddy bear drive. New teddy bears are collected and then distributed to children in shelters, soup kitchens, and medical facilties in and around Boston and on the North and South Shores of Massachusetts. The Teddy Bear Drive is a community effort. More than 25 fire and police departments, and private businesses participate by serving as teddy bear drop-off sites. The team of volunteers grew from an effort of family and friends to a community effort of hundreds of members. The volunteer team collects the donated teddy bears and distributes them to over 40 different sites. In our three years, the Teddy Bear Foundation has grown from collecting just 560 new teddy bears in its first year to last year's total of 6008. The Teddy Bear Foundation has reached out to thousands of children. The community response to The Teddy Bear Drive and shelter requests for new teddy bears increases every year. It is our vision to continue to meet these demands so we can bring hope and love from the community into the lives of children who are economically and emotionally disadvantaged.

HANDLING FRAUD ON EBAY
From: Ms. Janie
Hi! I just finished reading your article on the counterfeit Humphrey purchased on ebay. I have found myself in this same position where the article I purchased turned out to be a counterfeit. The reason I am writing is that you are not necessarily stuck with your purchase. I contacted the seller and explained all of my reasons for suspecting that my Garcia was counterfeit. He contacted me back that he'd had this beanie "authenticated" by local experts and that some variation is acceptable.

(I have been collecting, buying, selling, & trading for 6 years and have seen lots of variations, but this was way out of the acceptable range.) After going back and forth with the seller for awhile, he agreed to refund my money if I had the item authenticated by one of the authentication services, although he felt his own expertise was enough.

I sent the item to Real Beans to have it authenticated and they sent me a letter stating that Garcia did not meet their standards. I sent a copy of the letter to the seller, who told me that he thought it strange that they found the same problems with Garcia that I had found, and suggested that perhaps it was because I was paying them.........Anyway, I returned the Garcia to him and did not hear from him again for quite some time. He ignored my emails and did not send a refund.

I contacted SafeHarbor at ebay, and they walked me through what I needed to do to get my money back. Ebay offers insurance on purchases, although I've never had to use that function. Also, I reported the crime (and it is a crime!) to the National Fraud Hotline and to his local police. About six weeks later I received a priority envelope from him with a money order refunding my money. He then placed the Garcia on the auction again--with several slurs against the previous buyer. I contacted all of the bidders in the auction regarding the counterfeit, and the winning bidder later contacted me for help in getting her refund. I don't know when ebay took action against him, but he was suspended shortly after that.

Please let your readers know that even though they get burned, there are steps they can take for restitution. It takes time and it is a hassle, but in the end, they should get their money back. In all of the time that I have been trading on ebay, I have had only 4 cases of fraud--one that involved several bidders and several thousand dollars. (In that particular case, the woman was arrested and the case was mediated a year later, but I asked for, and was granted, my payment plus 10% interest for the year she held my money.) In every case, I eventually got my money back, and I believe that if your readers are aware that they do have some recourse, they will be able to get their money back too. Thanks for taking the time to read this. Alice Faulkner

Planet Beans Comment: This is great info to share with everyone. As many of you know, I was recently taken by someone on eBay and I've followed the appropriate reports to eBay and PayPal. I'm hoping to get this item resolved soon. I have received a few nasty emails from the seller in question because I've contacted the other bidders of this particular auction. I found out that nobody has received their bears so a number of these people plan to file complaints.

ISSY TO BE IN STORES
From: The Shoppes - I Luv Collectibles
This just in... The exclusive Ty Beanie Issy Bear has been reported by a VERY reliable source that this bear will now be available to Ty retailers in quantities of 36 for each store! Ty retailers could order 36 of Issy today at the New York Toy Fair. Hopefully this now means that Issy will be within everyone's reach.

We do not know if the "tush" tag will still say Four Seasons Hotel or what the hang tag will read since there were no hangtags or tush tags on the new Beanies at the New York Toy Fair today. The original Issy from the Hotel comes with a special card and it is not known if this will be included with retail stores bears either. We do know the Issy we are giving away this month is directly from the Hotel, has the special tags and also the "card" that was given out with Issy.

The new Ty Beanie "sit up" bear will be in the same style as the Holiday 2000 Teddy only in colors and fabric like "Groovy" Beanie Baby.

We will keep you posted on all the new Beanies and hopefully have Issy soon for sale at a price we can all afford :)

I am back home in Chicago from the American International Toy Fair and as always, the show was the Best of the Best. It is great fun to walk the aisles and see the latest and greatest in kids' toys.

The Ty Booth was quite crowded at 9AM when the show opened and certainly kept a steady stream of customers and onlookers throughout the day. As in the past, there were many Ty Reps and executives greeting and meeting people, eager to show off the six new Beanie Babies available to order at the show. Every patron who placed an order was given a large plastic Ty bag, with a background that looked quite similar to the pastel rainbow pattern used on their famous Web site. It was a great marketing technique on Ty Inc.'s part because you couldn't help but notice everyone walking around with these colorful bags all day.

The Ty display was set up somewhat differently than in the past. At other Toy Fairs and Gift Shows, all the new Ty Beanie Babies have been on the perimeter of the booth, each housed in an untouchable acrylic case. Patrons were very happy to see a very welcoming display of all the current Beanies, especially the six new styles. Customers were encouraged to pick them up and examine them as they were placing their orders. Everyone who has ever held a Beanie knows that after you pick one up, you fall in love with it and must have it.

As Joe and Karen reported from me earlier (thanks guys!) there are six styles of Beanies that were available to order beginning today.
1. Ty-dyed bear: The same style as the 2000 Holiday teddy; texture and color like Groovy
2. A Lying down light gray/dark gray cat; positioned like India with white paws; crystal blue eyes.
3. A butterfly on the order of Flitter; tye-dyed pastels with a lime green body; there is a 1" black outline around the wings.
4. A Collie Dog; resembles Lassie with golden brown/white bushy fur.
5. A Triceratops; turquoise with three horns on its head and a red glittery collar.
6. Issy. Yes, unmistakably ISSY.

All of the above were able to be ordered in a Quantity of 36 each. I didn't see any retailers passing up these great new Beanies. They are all must-haves. There were no tags attached to these new Beanies. They were also not named at this point. Retailers ordered them only as "Butterfly," etc.

The question is why would Issy become a mass marketed bear when it appeared to be limited to patrons of the Four Seasons, New York? The answer quite simply lies in the fact that eager collectors and dealers apparently inundated the upscale Four Seasons with calls and visits (even harassment) which led to several unpleasant incidents. The good intentions of this bear were leading to somewhat of a PR nightmare for the folks at the Four Seasons.

Sooooo..... Issy will now be available to everyone at retail, making many collectors extremely happy. Like Arial, all proceeds from the sale of Issy will be given to a worthwhile charity--in this case, the Sloan-Kettering Foundation for Cancer Research. Look for the tags to be different from the ones on the Four Seasons exclusive--and of course, there will be no card like the one that was in the hotel. I would anticipate that these original bears with their unique tags and cards will retain value. Look for other surprises in this area to follow.

The only Beanie housed in an acrylic display was the "Thank You" bear with the card that was sent to the retailers. This was just display to remind the Ty retailer how important he is to Ty and was not available to order.

The next big question is "Was Ty Warner there?" Yes, he arrived about 11am and was extremely cordial to all the customers who came up to him. He was dressed in (big surprise) all black and walked around the whole Show, chatting amiably with everyone, including some of his competition. He loves to hear the reactions to his products and is always amazingly open to suggestions. GREAT SHOW! Mary Beth

Shop in Elk Ridge sells Beanie Babies
From: Bean eWonderland
A love for Beanie Babies and the desire to stay home with her children created a new and exciting business opportunity for Geniel Clark. A year ago she opened Clark Gift Shop at her home in Elk Ridge. But what started as selling new and retired Beanie Babies has turned into a real gift store. Clark has expanded her inventory to include Boyd's Bears plush figurines, pins, religious and inspirational framed artwork, home decor crafts and candles and helium balloons along with the hundreds of Beanies. "Most of my customers when I first started were true Beanie collectors," said Clark. "But I'm starting to sell more of the other items too." Full Story:

FAKE BRITANNIA BUDDY TAGS
From: Ms. Janie
Yesterday I posted a link into Beaniemoms about a fake Britannia Buddy; the following link now offers scans of the REAL and FAKE tags. View the tags carefully, you can easily spot that the fake tag was pressed, look at the seams, what a mess! The gold foil is also wider and Beaniemom points out other flaws as well. http://www.beaniemom.com/britcounter1.html

The following reports are now out on Toy Fair.
From: Ms. Janie
I received a call from a retailer at Toy Fair who has been unable to view all of the new products because of the amount of people standing around the booth. She indicated that there were a few new styles and one was a butterfly and a new dinosaur. She will call back later with more details. In the mean time the following was sent through a newsflash e-mail from Joe Elliott.

MaryBeth reports back to Joe Elliot about this year's offerings at Toy Fair.
A multi-colored butterfly with black piping around the wings
A green triceratops dinosaur
A gray laying-down cat
A collie-type laying-down dog
A new sitting up Ty-dyed bear
..and ISSY the Four Seasons bear!

From: Ms. Janie
BeanieMom has UPDATED her information on Toy Fair - She had recently posted that it was mandatory for retailers to attend Toy Fair to order new releases, her updated information now confirms that it is NOT mandatory to attend. The following comes directly from Beaniemom.

Information from Ty retailer updated ... She has since learned attendance at Toy Fair is not mandatory to order new items however they will be debuted there first for all the world to see. The Ty booth at Toy Fair is always hopping but my guess is these new releases will keep the Ty representatives very busy! http://www.beaniemom.com

Speaking of Beaniemom, she also has information posted about counterfiet Britannia Buddies at the following link. http://www.beaniemom.com/britcounter.html

Tom from Beaniekids reports to us that he is now able to confirm the following tag details for the new Buckingham Beanie Buddy:

Buckingham The Beanie Baby was one of only a few bears to have
two ribbons - Can you name the others?

Buckingham Buddy Ribbons Update
From: Bean eWonderland
Marie writes: I saw the info on the buckingham buddies on the two sites, I can see two ribbons on both pictures.  One is clearer than the other but they are there.  I understand that a lot of men are color blind maybe that is why Brad and Sly cannot see it on the smartcollecting picture .- Bean eWonderlands comment - "I have looked again myself and unless I am also colour blind they do not look the same to me." Noelfan also shares their thoughts on the subject. - You forgot the third option, that being the original picture is legitimate, but was a prototype which somehow got out. After all, it wouldn't be the first time that Ty has tinkered with ribbons, an example of Ty tinkering, the Zip Beanie has no ribbon, yet the Buddy has a red one with gold trim. Same for Flip, the beanie has no ribbon, but the buddy does.

JUMBO VALENTINA CONTEST!! #10 (yesterday's question)
How much is Morrie the Beanie Baby?
ANSWER ~ $2.95

Buckingham Buddy
From: Bean eWonderland
Sly and Brad both noticed the following: Take a Look at the Buckingham Buddy Photo on ebay (View Here) and then look at the one on Smartcollecting from Beanikidz (View Here). Notice anything? Look at the ribbons, the real eBay one has a double ribbon like the Beanie Baby. (Bean eWonderlands comment - This could only be one of two things, the Beaniekidz picture is a fake or there is already a variation of Buckingham Buddy).

Kaleidoscope
From: Bean eWonderland
Brandon shares the following - I just wanted to let you know that I have four Kaleidoscopes today at three different Hallmarks. I was extremely excited to find these early, especially in the U.S. I live in Louisiana. It seems like Ty is shipping away with all of the new beanies and buddies! (Bean eWonderlands comment - All the pictures I have seen of Kaleidoscope look pretty much the same, in my opinion the design looks like it could be a little time consuming to produce and I would not be surprised to see an early retirement).
