Beanie Thief Sentencing In May
Donald J. Nicholson, 19, of Levittown pleaded guilty in Bucks County
Court in Pennsylvania yesterday to stealing hundreds of Beanie Babies,
most of them limited editions. He will be sentenced on May 1 for
smashing windows and carrying off bags full of Beanie Babies from gift
shops. One shop owner said the bandit, who struck at her place three
times within 10 days last October, knew exactly what to look for.
"The robber came in and took the most valuable ones the first
time." said Sherry Carpenter, 54, who said her loss in the thefts
was estimated at $20,000. Nicholson's attorney, Lou Busico said of his
client "The truth is, he hates Beanie Babies. He did it to keep

Beanie Kids Poll
A local store conducted a poll using Beanie Kids, asking the
public for their opinions. Both boy and girl types were on display for
just over a week and interested collectors were able to look, handle,
poke and shake them at will. It was a free poll of customers opinions.
The store states, "We are aware that UK tastes and opinions are
often vastly different to those of people in USA having dealt in both
countries extensively for over twenty years." 264 people were asked
for their opinions on the new beanie kids, only five (5) people (all age
groups) thought the kids were Great and they would "definitely buy
them when available". 191 people thought they were "ugly and
would not be collecting them", 20 people said that they
"might" buy them but were not convinced. The remaining 48
either did not express an opinion, even when asked, or said they had no
opinion and were indifferent to them but "probably" would not
buy any. All 264 people thought they were "Priced very
reasonable" and expected them to cost more than £5-99p. All 264
people were also shown photos of the new (year 2000) beanie babies....
ALL thought they were very good and wished to buy them. Everyone was
anxious to obtain them as soon as they could. Many of the people that
thought they "might" buy the Kids said if the beanie babies
were also available they would, without question, buy them (the babies)
first and only buy the kids "after" they had all the new
beanie babies, and if they had any spare money left.

Yes, it is true! Ty has sued Sally. He wants her to destroy all of her

SALLY WINEY ~ SOS FUND ~ P O BOX 273 ~ MORGANTOWN PA 19543
All donations not used to fight Ty will go to Sally's favorite charity

Also, Rob LeClair of Holy Bears www.holybears.com

Every person that orders a bear from Sally's Y2K collection will receive
a set of the Winey trio; Does Cuzzy Does, Didn't Cuzzy Don't and Won't
Wishy Could. This offer is exclusive to HandCrafted Beauties. Remember,
there were only 200 of each bear to start with and many dealers have
been selling them. Some, such as Sidney and Abby are almost sold out.
All of the bears in this collection are signed and numbered. Keep in
mind, most of these bears are the design that Ty wants Sally to destroy.

Side Note: Are
we all about sick of TY yet?! I find it VERY upsetting that a lovely
lady that has helped TY out with his Planet Plush line as well as other
designs is now being sued by TY. It has gotten to the point that he is
going to drive people away from purchasing his products. I do remember
Sally Winey being 'escorted out' of the Ty® booth at the New
York Gift Show recently, she reportedly was checking up what was up with
some of her old designs. It seems to me that she found some of her
designs being used by TY without her permission and now he feels he
needs to take legal action against her. What's up with that?! I'm so
disappointed at Mr. Warner right now. Is his ego so big that he can't
see that there are REAL people and REAL emotions right in front of him?
It's a sad day for both TY and Sally Winey fans.

They just know that they were chosen for test marketing the new Beanies.
I talked with them and also called more than 10 other stores in Tokyo
that sell Beanies
(. 3 of these were Sony Plazas) and asked about Sakura. EVERYONE said
that they would be out 3/25. Amounts varied per store.... some will be
getting in 24, some 8, some 35... about half of the stores wouldn't tell
me how many they expected to get in. Several stores said that they
expected
people to line up before 6am. All stores that I talked to are allowing
only one Sakura per person.

Disturbing Report
The following was an article sent to me from a news group, it
has not been confirmed but I have asked the person to report this to
namenames@ty.com:
Well the Beanie Kids arrived here in Northern Ireland on Saturday and I
have only just calmed down sufficiently to ask for thoughts and opinions
on how this Northern Ireland shop 'sold' them. The shop in question got
50 beanie kids in. There were at least double that number of
people wanting to buy them. The store owner proceeded to organize
a lottery. Everyone who wanted one had to buy a raffle ticket at
£5.99 ($US9 approx). If your ticket was drawn you got a beanie
kid, if it wasn't you lost the £5.99. When asked about getting
your money back if you didn't win the store owner just replied that by
selling them at £5.99 he was selling them at a loss. I wasn't
interested in buying them but there were an awful lot of disappointed
and upset kids who handed over their pocket money for nothing in return.

Beanie Kid Hang Tag Protector
Advice
We have received several notes from collectors that have tried
putting hang tag protectors on the new Beanie Kids. The plastic
attachment that connects the hang tag to the Beanie Kids is so short
that using a regular 'swing open' tag protector is not advised. In order
to avoid damaging the tag it appears that using a tag protector that you
can slip on would be the best route to go. Even then some modifications
need to be made. A reader explains:
I just finished "tag
protecting" six Beanie Kids. This is not a project for anyone who
does not have "SLIP-ON" tag protectors. The red tag connector
is extremely short and attaches the hangtag to the ear. Even the
"SLIP-ON" tag protectors need to be modified by clipping off
the corner of the tag protector closest to the ear (of course, BEFORE
you put it on the tag!). This method worked great for me and my KIDS. I
hope this information will help! --Jill

Beanie Kids Spare
It seems that not all the raffle draws for the beanie kids went
quite to plan. Wongo's Beanie Station reports: One of the listed
retailers on TY's site was Toy Stack in Bluewater. Bluewater is one of
the biggest retail parks in the UK, and staff and security at the
complex had geared themselves up for an onslaught of mad collectors! But
just how wrong they were, the TY Rep had duly turned up at 9.00 am with
his shipment of 54 Beanie Kids (9 styles, 6 of each) only to find that
there were only 52 people in the queue. What was even more bizarre, he
them made the collectors wait till 11am to be able to purchase them, so
other shoppers could see them first. Full

Hello Lisa,
While searching through the Ty Site I stumbled across some different

no matter what Ty Product number you place. For example you can have a

This just in concerning the
teenie beanie promotion ... still a rumor but we are in the process of
verifying this information now.
WE GOT WORD AT OUR MANAGER MEETING ON THE NEW TY MCDONALDS PRODUCTS. THEY WILL START IN JUNE AND RUN FOR 16 DAYS...FOLLOWED BY 3 DAYS OF "BACKYARD BUDDIES" AND 3 DAYS OF "UNDERWATER BUDDIES" THEN THEY WILL OFFER THE ELECTION YEAR TBB'S...RIGHTY, LEFTY, AND LIBEARTY.
THEY WILL DO ANOTHER PROMOTION IN DECEMBER...SO TWO FOR THE YEAR. TBB'S IN DECEMBER WILL NOT BE THE SAME AS THOSE IN JUNE. JUST THOUGHT I WOULD SHARE! THANKS!
WE HAD OUR BRIEFING ON THE UPCOMING PROMOTION LAST WEEK. I CAN NOT GIVE YOU THE SPECIFIC DATES IN JUNE, BUT CAN SAY IT WILL BE MID-JUNE. THERE WILL BE 16 REGULAR TBB'S AND THEY ARE WANTING US TO DO ONE A DAY REGARDLESS OF HOW FAST THEY SELL. WE WILL USE LEFTOVER TOYS TO COMPLETE HAPPY MEALS AFTER THAT DAYS TBB IS GONE.
ACTUALLY I AM NOT PERMITTED TO SAY WHICH 16 ARE BEING DONE IN JUNE. I HAVE NO DETAILS ON THE DECEMBER PROMOTION AT THIS TIME. I READ THE POST FROM STEPHEN THAT YOU REFERENCED AND WE WERE NOT TOLD OF GLORY BEING USED (SHE WAS USED LAST YEAR) THERE WERE ONLY THE THREE...RIGHTY, LEFTY, AND LIBEARTY. THE BUDDIES I BELIEVE ARE ACTUALLY A BIT SMALLER THAN THE BEANIES AND WILL SELL FOR APPROXIMATELY $4.99 WITH ANY PURCHASE. QUANTITIES ARE LIMITED. IT LOOKS AS THOUGH TY IS HOPING TO JUMPSTART THE MARKET AGAIN WITH THE TBB PROMOTION. LOOKS TO BE VERY EXCITING
That is great news .... it
looks like the information that Stephen sent us earlier today could
really be it ... teenie buddies ... how cute! This could
definitely be one of those years that you should be at McDonalds when
they open to ensure that you will get yours. We can't wait!
Way to go Ty!!!!

SAKURA POEM
Darla wrote to Bean
Bag World to translate the verbiage posted under the alleged Ty®
Sakura™ bear photograph posted on www.kashu.ne.jp/auction. A couple of
the words were quite fuzzy on the reproduction and may be slightly
different in actuality. Many collectors speculate that this may be the
poem listed on the hang tag of the new bear.
Japanese:
Watashi wa nihon no takara mono
Anata ni haru to ai o hakonde kuruyo
Dakishimeraretara kokoro go atatemate
Hora, Hana ga saita da
English:
I am a treasure of Japan.
I bring you spring and love.
If you hug me, our hearts become warm.
Look, flowers are blooming.
Darla explains the Japanese reasoning for the last two lines of the poem
as follows:
"When the weather becomes warm, the flowers bloom. By hugging
Sakura, our hearts become warm and thus not only the flowers outside,
but also the flowers in our hearts, bloom."
Darla adds that although
www.kashu.ne.jp/auction is an auction site, the poster and bear are not
for sale -- they are merely to stimulate interest. The poems appear to
have been originally written in Japanese (instead of English that was
later translated into Japanese) because of the language structure and
meaning.

Your Beanies From Plastic Baggies!
Many collectors have stored their precious Beanie Babies in
ordinary plastic bags most often used to store food. However, plastic baggies
are not designed to store collectibles and are not recommended for this purpose
by the manufacturer. Plastic baggies seal in condensation and contain
acids which could lead to mold and mildew damage.
Beanies should be stored in a tied or taped
archival poly bag or wrapped in acid-free tissue paper and then stored in an
acid-free cardboard container. You can find these supplies at the PreserveSmart

Four Other Versions of Ty.com Too Much For Ty?
(Jason sent this to me this morning and I felt it was worth sharing!)
Ty Inc. doesn't seem to be bothered by the fact that they neglect the German,
Japanese, French, and Mexican versions of Ty.com. While looking through on each
version, I noticed that they just introduced the new beanie babies, they haven't
added the newer buddies to the Beanie Buddies page, and they still
have the Pillow Pals Collection Page up and running (They were recently
discontinued and replaced by Ty Classic). So what does this all mean? We
don't know yet, but maybe Ty doesn't realize what's going on, or maybe they
forgot about the four other versions. But whatever it is, there's no excuse
for them not updating the other versions of Ty.com.

difference between Iggy the beanie (with spikes) and Iggy the teenie (no

Attached are 2 comparison pictures of the 1st edition signature buddy and the 2nd edition one. The 1st one was bought in February and I just bought the 2nd one this weekend. The 1st edition one is on the right side in both pictures. as you can see there is a big color difference, the 2nd edition has alot more purple than the 1st edition. I think the second edition one has alot less shine and glitter but you really have to hold them next to one another to tell the difference. The 1st edition one is ALOT nicer and prettier. CHRISTIE |

Overheard on the Cyberboard
hjep writes: Yes, this is an actual news story! I was watching our local
Fox station the other evening. They have a consumer watchdog section. Anyway,
the one they spoke about was about... the Clubby I beanie, yes, the Clubby I
BEANIE! This little girl had ordered her beanie (her brother had also, he
received his). All she got was the certificate. Finally, after writing letters,
phone calls (all long distance, mind you) she contacted Contact 6(Fox Channel
6-Milwaukee). Guess what she now has. Yes, you guessed it. Ty (aka Cyrk) sent
her Clubby I beanie (tells us they are still out there, doesn't it?) and an
apology letter.

Special Book Offer to Club Members
and Planet Beans readers:
Heartfelt Stories About Beanie Babies and Those Who Collect Them
by Pam Knapp
Everyone knows you can make money with Beanie Babies. Now the true stories in
the recently released book, Heartfelt Stories About Beanie Babies..., show what
makes them priceless.
Heartfelt Stories... is an inspiring and heartwarming anthology of 192 true
collector stories celebrating how Beanie Babies have changed people's lives in
remarkable ways. Readers of all ages will be amazed at how Beanie Babies have
functioned as motivating coaches, teachers, therapists and emotional
healers, benefactors, trouble-shooters, nurses, matchmakers, companions, and
family counselors. They'll read about:
-the mother who found a way to face the trauma of chemotherapy -the
nine-year-old boy who started a mission to help the homeless -the dying father
who discovered a reason to smile -the long-standing friendship that magically
turned to love and marriage
... and many more heartfelt stories.
This compelling anthology is the work of Pam Knapp, herself a Beanie Baby
collector, who discovered that Beanie Babies brought a greater sense of
well-being, balance, and happiness to her own life. Knowing her life would never
be the same, she wondered if others were experiencing similar
"blessings," all because of Beanie Babies. In her search to document
this wonderful, non-commercial side of Beanie Baby collecting, she discovered
that hundreds of other collectors were eager to share the changes that Beanies
have made in their lives and, through them, in the lives of others.
Heartfelt Stories About Beanie Babies® ... is the first book to explore the
true cultural impact of these adorable, popular stuffed toys. Stories from
collectors ages 9 to 79 reveal how Beanie Babies have served as catalysts for
strength and change in collectors' lives.
The New Haven Register says "Pam Knapp... has discovered the healing power
of Beanie Babies."

HALLMARK LOSES TY ACCOUNT
I just found out this morning that a
Hallmark store I shopped at frequently in has lost their Ty account. This is
getting a bit ridiculous. This store fell victim to the Ty 'rule' of having to
have the Ty display at the front of the store. I guess Ty wants his displays to
be the center of attention. The store manager just laughed when I told her I've
read about this on the Internet. She said, "I'm not disappointed in losing
the account because I am a Hallmark store and NOT a Ty store". "It's
not a tough choice to stay a Hallmark Gold Crown store or choose to carry Ty
products". Hallmark's carry so much more and I think it's just ridiculous
that this rule is in place. If I were a retailer and I had someone telling ME
how to run my store I wouldn't be very happy either.

Teen hacks for fun, to relieve boredom
By CAROL CARTER
WOLFEBORO - Wearing a Pokemon T-shirt emblazoned with the words: "Gotta
catch 'em all!" a 17-year-old high school dropout admitted yesterday
he has hacked into "dozens" of Web sites during the past several
years, including one belonging to a prominent computer security company. Facing
a wall of television cameras in the cluttered living room of his family's home
on Union Street, Dennis M. Moran appeared oblivious to the potential
consequences of his actions. "I didn't think I'd get caught," said the
dark-haired teenager, who dropped out of Kingswood Regional High School early in
his junior year. Moran denied responsibility, however, for well-publicized
attacks last month on major electronic-commerce companies. Sites including
Yahoo! and Amazon.com were put out of business for hours by a barrage of hacker
signals sent to them all at once. During a conversation with his buddies in the
#goonies Internet Relay Chat channel a few days after the attacks, Moran said he
had jokingly
acknowledged committing the hacks. David Brumley, a security expert from
Stanford University, was posing as a 14-year-old in the chat room, Moran said.

Hard Rock Cafe Sued by Beanie
Baby-Maker Ty for Selling Toys
Bloomberg News
Mar 3 2000 6:56PM ET
Hard Rock Cafe Sued by Beanie Baby-Maker Ty for Selling Toys Chicago, March 3
(Bloomberg) -- Ty Inc., the maker of Beanie Babies plush toys, sued Hard Rock
Cafe, International Inc., a unit of Rank Group Plc, for allegedly selling toy
bears that infringe on its copyrights. The suit filed in federal court in
Chicago claims a bear sold by Hard Rock, named ``Isaac Beara,'' is virtually
identical to Ty's plush bears. Ty claims the two bears have similar features
that consumers will be confused into thinking they are related. The suit asks
that Hard Rock be barred from infringing its property and for unspecified
damages. Hard Rock ``is continuing to falsely advertise and designate the origin
or is marketing the accused bear in a manner calculated to lead the public to
believe that the accused bear'' emanates from Ty, the suit claims. Read the

H. Kong Cop Jumped McDonald's Line
HONG KONG (AP) - As if the fistfights, customer stampedes and black
marketing weren't enough, it has now been revealed that a 1998 McDonald's
promotion led to an internal police probe of an officer accused of jumping the
line to buy a Snoopy doll. Customers crowding outside a McDonald's outlet to
wait for a chance to buy the toys apparently weren't amused. Authorities
received an anonymous complaint that the senior police constable who was
controlling the crowds at the time might have abused his power by calling the
restaurant on his cellular phone then picking up his order through a back door
while ordinary citizens outside waited hours for their turn. The officer, who
has not been publicly identified, was called in to explain himself. He said he
had ordered the food in advance - a service available to any customer - and
arranged to pick up his order through a back door to avoid the crowd. Read the

Student wins $1,500 from school for losing Pokemon cards

confiscated, then lost, his 161 Pokemon cards took the school to small claims
court and won a $1,500 judgment. "I'll be able to get more Pokemon cards,''
