CHERISH UPDATES FROM SUE
http://www.planetbeans.com/SuesCharityAuctions.htm

If you have millions, why stay here in cold? aires doing here?
I am not a numbers person. So I have never been too clear on how they determine who qualifies as a millionaire -- and I held out hope that, somehow, I might be one. Surely they must take into account a person's impressive library, say, with its steadily appreciating copies of Taxi Driver Wisdom and Ethan Hawke novels, and there must be a way to acknowledge a lifelong investment in quality hair color, yes?

No. As it turns out, the formula allows for no such things. Your net worth must equal at least $1 million, and you don't get to count your house.

Never enough
4. How much more money will it take before you really feel rich?

Being a millionaire, of course, is not what it used to be. The word began to lose its meaning around 2000, when we learned that Rick Rockwell, of "Who Wants to Marry a Multi-Millionaire?" fame, had a small role in the movie "Killer Tomatoes Eat France!" Let's put it this way: Nelson Rockefeller would never have fraternized with aggressive produce.

These days, if you want to be in the nation's top 1 percent, you'll need a minimum of $5 million. But be warned: The number of American "pentamillionaires" has quadrupled in the last 10 years, to more than 930,000. So financially speaking, you're not anybody anymore until you're a hectomillionaire, with more than $100 million. And that's the point at which you begin to obsessively brood about the fact that Ty Warner and his Beanie Babies still have more money than you. http://www.suntimes.com/lifestyles/wiser/402410,CST-NWS-paige27.article

KNOWLEDGE - UPCOMING BORDERS EXCLUSIVE
There is an auction from a seller in Australia that has an in-hand photo of the Beanie & hangtag and there are other pre-sale auctions listed. Apparently this Beanie will be available to those people placing pre-orders at Borders for Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows, the 7th and FINAL Harry Potter book.

NOTE: Please keep in mind that I am only sharing these auctions with you so you can see what this Beanie will look like. VIEW AUCTIONS HERE

ORDERING THE 4 CORNISH EXCLUSIVES FROM JENNI AT ABBY BEARS
I wanted to let you know that I received an email from Jenni at Abbey Bears stating that she is inundated with orders for the Cornish exclusives. (Not a surprise!!) She wanted to let you know that she will respond to all of your emails as soon as she is able to. Please do not re-email her as her email box is very full currently.

NOTE: I appreciate Jenni making these items available to Planet Beans readers. If she and Abbey Bears weren't so kind you would have to pay a lot more for these exclusives on eBay or through secondary dealers.

SUMMERFEST INTRODUCTION

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY
I hope all Mother's feel special and loved today and always. Cherish your Mom!! She is the reason you are alive and has had a huge part in making you the wonderful person you are. -Much love, Lisa

I'm sorry for the delay in sending updates and for updating the website. I had surgery on the 4th and between recovering from that, work, preparing for my oldest to graduation from high school, and normal things, I've not been able to do much else.

Community Education
I completely concur with the sentiments expressed in the Angry Poodle's rant about the lack of private support for education in Santa Barbara (and the whole country) [ "Yo Perro También," May 3]. It sickened me and many others to see St. Francis hospital fold, so that bazillions could be raised to bolster Cottage Hospital’s expansion. But I don’t think the way to go about the education crisis is to insult those very folks who could and should make a difference for the youth of our county. These children should be our priority because they may well be our future leaders, especially as we age and look to them for their wisdom, compassion, and support. If we don’t educate them, good luck to us!

Ty Warner and many other folk whom you barely camouflaged in insulting and demeaning terms, have done a great deal of good for our community. They are indeed rich and committed people who pick and choose their causes—albeit usually because their lives have been impacted by some crisis or cause. Or in some cases, they may jump on the bandwagon so to speak, because their other well-heeled friends are supporting that particular cause. Many of the “has-been rock stars” and “over-the-hill celebrities” have never ceased to come out to help address various community needs and have been incredibly effective.

I think praising their generosity and imploring them to examine the deplorable lack of funding for teachers, facilities, and educational needs in this area would be the way to go, rather than insulting them. Remember, you catch more flies with honey. The Angry Poodle went too far this time, not in intent but in content. Shame on you.—Ronnie Haran Mellen http://www.independent.com/news/2007/may/10/community-education/

Beak is back
Globe-trotting Beanie Baby serves as instructor, ambassador for Central School
If Beak the Kiwi Beanie Baby carried a suitcase, it would be covered with stickers from all sorts of exotic places.

Instead, Beak - or Beaky as he was known in Bangladesh - spent more time as luggage than toting luggage, but that was OK with Nancy Baim's third-grade class at Central School in O'Fallon.

As a geography project, the brown and green toy bird was send off on his own with only a blank notebook to document his trip and a few written instructions to guide his journey. His trek began last December at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport, where he tried his luck as an international hitchhiker. From St. Louis, he traveled 49,247 miles, visited five continents, made dozens of new friends and arrived safely back in O'Fallon on April 13, a day ahead of his requested return date.

Besides carrying a little dust from all over the world, Beak also arrived home with a treasure trove of souvenirs. Those included a boomerang from Australia, foreign currency from Asia, postcards from a variety of venues, personal photos of him with his new friends and a notebook full of stories about his adventures. http://suburbanjournals.stltoday.com/articles/2007/04/29/news/sj2tn20070427-0429fhj_ofbeaky.ii1.txt
