childhood memories on Wednesday in the hope that they would bring joy
to other children. The students donated 660 stuffed animals and more

That
Perfect Present Is Probably on EBay
Going Mainstream
As it turned six
this year, eBay shook off its childhood image as the small auction
site where people haggled over Beanie Babies. It began marketing
itself as a virtual mall where computers and electronic gear outsell
collectibles. While eBay still features mostly auctions, about 16
percent of its sales today are at fixed prices, thanks to the addition
of the "BuyItNow" format, seller "storefronts" and
eBay's purchase of Half.com, a fixed-price Web market. Read the

The Beanie Babies phenomenon has hit
Australia!
Reminder
From: Ms. Janie
Ty Australia has
released its first range of Beanie Babies into the highly excited
collector market Saturday 17 November. These cute, cuddly and
collectable plush toys, each with their own birth date, name and poem,
have caused a frenzy overseas and are set to do the same here. To kick
start their arrival, Australian Olympic and World swimming champion
Ian Thorpe has signed an 'America Bear' Beanie Baby to raise funds to
assist the children of Australian families of the September 11 tragedy
and children with illness. All proceeds of the signed 'America Bear'
will go to Ian Thorpe's Foundation for Youth Trust. Past sporting and
other celebrity signed Beanie Babies, have raised tens of thousands of
dollars for charities, so please show your generosity and bid high! http://au.page.sold.yahoo.com/au/auction/510341636?aucview=search

Solving
inconveniences with gadgets, gizmos
From: BeaneWonderland
Don't you hate it
when you ride in the car and the sun shines into your eyes? The sun
visor doesn't help because you're a kid and much shorter than an
adult. These are some of life's minor irritations that fourth graders
at Chanhassen Elementary school have eased with their inventions.
Inventions addressed planning piano practice, securing a Beanie Babies
collection, helping kids identify their school buses more easily, how
to rake up leaves more efficiently and much, much more. Each student's
display included their invention, a written description of the problem
it solves, and how it works, and an inventor's log. Full

Patriotic wishes this Christmas

The red and green of Christmas are giving way to red,
white and blue this year as consumers -- infused with a renewed sense
of patriotism. At Papyrus in South Coast Plaza, owner Sharon Sterbenz

only ever seen this enthusiasm with Beanie Babies," said Sterbenz.

Beanie Babies Pulling Up
From: Kid's Collection
According to Cahners Playthings Magazine, Beanie
Babies were the second best selling toy for specialty retailers for
the first half of 2001. Ranking in at first place, was perhaps
Ty's biggest competitor at this time, Groovy Girls by Manhattan Toy
Co. Many retailers are claiming that the Groovy Girls are
outselling Ty Beanie Boppers two to one! Thomas the Tank Engine
by Learning Curve ranked in at third place, Bendos by Kid Galaxy at
fourth. Lego playsets held fifth and six places, fifth place
being the Bionicle series, and the sixth place being assorted playsets.
Magz sets by Progressive Trading held seventh place and Playmobil
assorted sets were ranked at eighth. Sanrio assorted products
were at ninth place, and Stomp Rockets held tenth. Playthings
expects this year the top holiday toy will be a combination of many
different toys, depending on the age group. We've seen Beanie
Babies, Tickle Me Elmo, Pokemon, and more favorites fly off the shelf
different Christmas seasons but it looks like this year, the best
sellers will be scattered!

BEANIES AT WAL-MART
From: BeaneWonderland
While I was shopping at Wal-Mart last night, I noticed they had a
box of TY beanie babies priced at $5.75 each, they had the Mr and Mrs
bears, Sarge and a whole bunch of other ones. Are the Ty beanies going

Shoppers scour stores
looking for 'the' gift
From: BeaneWonderland
Much is made each year about what gadget, toy or talking doll will
take over the marketplace and force parents and gift-buyers everywhere
into a bout of holiday madness. But in Oxford, people just want
to rock and roll all night. There, it seems, merchandise from the band
KISS is going to be a big seller this holiday season. Furbies, Beanie
Babies and Tickle-Me Elmo all are items that went white-hot at
Christmas time. Last year, it was anything Pokemon - the trading card
game that pitches cute critters against one another.
Video game consoles are an item that some say could bring big holiday sales this year. With two new machines just entering the market, and another only a year old, retailers are stocking up. Full Article:

If you are an AOL

we reported on last week, ended just after some of AOL’s servers
went down in the UK (causing last minute bidders’ connections to go

at Lemon Lainey decided it would be easier and much fairer just to
re-run the auction on their own website with the same starting bid of
$1.00 and no reserve. Visit

World's Biggest Toy Sensation About To Hit New
Zealand
From: Ms. Janie
The world's
biggest toy sensation, bigger than Barbie and Furby, is about to hit
New Zealand. Beanie Babies are launching today, and are sure to send
Kiwi kids, and their parents, into a pre-Christmas buying frenzy.
Beanie Babies each have their own name, birth date and poem on a heart
shaped tag making them valuable to collectors. There are 60 Beanie
Babies in the first range being released in New Zealand, including
Spunky the Dog, Congo the Monkey and Roary the Lion, and at least 30
of those are 'retired' and no longer in production, making them highly
sought after by collectors. Beanie Babies collectors crave the
'retired' Beanie Babies. While no longer in production, the 'retired'
Beanie Babies go onto the secondary market, including internet
auctions and collector sites. One such Beanie Baby, 'Number One Bear',
sold for US$12,000 in this way. Local collectors, and there are many,
are thrilled to see Beanie Babies in New Zealand and will be among the
first to buy them. Devoted Beanie Baby collector, Jeanette Donald from
Palmerston North, first bought "Hope" as a present for a
friend while on a student exchange in Canada. Hope is a praying bear
that she saw as fun, playful symbol of her friend's Muslim faith.
Beanie Babies will be sold throughout New Zealand in Granny May's
stores and other selected gift and toy shops. http://www.newsroom.co.nz/story/74478-37-0.html

Japan Update
From: BeaneWonderland
One of our readers from Japan reports: I got a news by e-mail
from Toho Company which produces the Godzilla's Movies. It said
Godzilla and King Ghidorah will be prior sale at theatres which show
Godzilla's new movie from December 15, 2001. Not only a theatre's
store, but we will be able to purchase them by mail order according to
explanation of this movie's pamphlet. Mothra will be sold only by mail
order according to same pamphlet's explanation, not at a theatre's
store for some reason of a manufacturing process. And after this movie
is closed, Godzilla, King Ghidorah and Mothra will be sold at
retailers in Japan. Alpha.

Kentucky's
Conner High School Receives National Outstanding Service Project Award
From: Marie of About
Beanies
The NHS students of Conner High School brought together the
best of the best to raise funds for an ongoing endangered species
fund. To cover the start up costs, the students established a fund
raising committee, organized a letter campaign for donations and
acquired support letters from 11 different states. Additionally, the
students contacted many well-known individuals to help their cause. The
students contacted Ty Warner of TY beanie babies and reached agreement
with him to produce a white lion beanie baby and donate 10 percent of
the sales to the endangered species fund. The models for these
beanie babies will be the white lions owned by the entertainers and
animal lovers, Siegfried and Roy. Wildlife artist John Ruthann will
produce a white lion wildlife print and donate a portion of the sale
to the fund. Finally, the Vice President of the United States Post
Office has agreed to produce a white lion postage stamp. Through the
beanie babies, print, and stamp, the students have laid the ground
work for a continuous flow of funds to help fund worldwide educational
programs, provide safe habitat, improve public awareness, and secure
breeding programs for the white lion.
TOY DRIVE
Julia sends in the following:
"My church is having a toy drive, for the children of the
less fortunate family's. If you can help in anyway, by donating toys,
Bibles, or whatever the Lord lays on your heart to help with will be
most appreciated. This will be for children where their family's are
struggling to pay bills and don't have anything left over each month
to buy toys. I myself have donated Beanie Babies, so any kind of toys
at all will make some child happy this Christmas. Please open your
heart and help a needy child this year. If you want to help, e-mail me
for more information. ladyknightbeat@cs.com
Thank you and God Bless you and yours." Julia

COURAGE & RESCUE HANG TAGS
Hello-- It hasn't been too long since I got
to share a bit of news and here I am tonight writing about more new
goodies. Before I divulge the NEW news, I want to tell you that I was
able to purchase all of the Jingle Beanie bears in town today (except
Peace) with the plastic noses instead of the embroidered noses.
They're not only in Japan folks! Next, I have a question. We all know
that Speckles and Tradee are e-Beanies which can only be purchased
through the Ty Store, right? Well what about Classy? He was announced
as a new offer at the Ty Store, but before I ordered one from Ty, I
was able to find one at my favorite retail haunt here in Madison. They
were actually rather plentiful at retail and so I never ordered one
from the Ty site before they sold out, although I was curious to know
whether or not the hang tags would be the same on the Ty Store Classy
vs. retail Classy. I watched the Beanie news, but don't remember ever
hearing of a difference in tags. If there was, would someone please
let me know as I obviously missed it. OK, now for the scoop. I got
home from work VERY late today and was pleasantly surprised to find a
box waiting for me at my front door. It was none other than my order
for Courage and Rescue from the Ty Store. Nothing to get too excited
about as I had already found them at retail awhile back. None the
less, I opened the box and proceeded to inspect the doggies and their
tags. So guess what? We have yet another variation to hunt down. Both
the hang and tush tags on both Courage and Rescue are different than
their retail counterparts. The back of the hang tag still lists the
SAFETY PRECAUTION blurb as well as the "retain tag" info in
exactly the same wording as any other 10th generation Beanie. However,
instead of a barcode in between the writing, there is a pinkish-purple
shopping sack with handles and the Ty heart in the center of the bag
which is the same as the Ty Store icon on the main page for Ty.com. To
the right of the bag is the word "STORE" in purple letters
and in a very small font below that is "www.ty.com" in black
letters. Then on the tush tags, rather than just the name
"Courage" or "Rescue" it says "Courage - NYPD"
and "Rescue - FDNY". Pretty cool, no? Sorry that I cannot
provide pics, I don't own a digital camera and only have access to a
scanner at work (which isn't for another 8 hours--TG!! Actually TGIF!!).
Hey Marilyn in WI, where are you? We need your expert photo skills!
Well it's midnight now, my parents went to sleep almost two hours ago,
and I should log off and be heading back home myself (only have
computer access at work too). I just felt that I should share some
news in an otherwise slow beannews week. Happy Friday everybody!! HJ

him. OK here's what webtv users have to do! Tell them to go to into
their email page. On the top of the email page there is a link labeled
"settings". They should click on that link and then on that
page there is a link that is labeled "junk mail". They
should click on the "junk mail" Link. Once inside that page
they can remove the junk mail block by unchecking the junk block box
and clicking on "done" They should start receiving your
newsletter again after 24 hours or maybe even sooner. It worked for
me! Of course this means they might get some spam or junk email but
honestly I have not received much of it since I removed my junk mail
block like 2 weeks ago. maybe 2 or 3 junk emails at the most Sly the

CUTE
STORY
From: Ms. Janie
Ms Janie, I wanted to
share this with you and the other "beanie" collectors. We
all know that we have strange ties to our Beanie friends. There are
two of us in our office that collect beanies avidly. Several others
collect a little but one of the men we work with buys bears for his
wife's collection. I had "Kooky" the cat sitting on my
monitor and this man would come into my office and slip
"Kooky" off my monitor and he would be found sitting on his
monitor, this was all in fun. One day we bought this friend a
"Kooky" of his own. "Kooky" can be seen sitting on
the monitor or a speaker in his office since the day we gave him to
our friend. My friend is having surgery today. His "kooky"
disappeared yesterday. Someone asked him what happened to
"Kooky" and he told them that he had taken "kooky"
home and that he would be going to the hospital with him. His words
were, "I can't have surgery without my "good luck
charm". This made me feel very good since I had made sure that he
had a "kooky" of his own. Just wanted to share a
"Beanie" story with you this morning. I also wanted to say
that we were able to get Clubby IV and ours weren't opened. When we
told the lady we by our Ty products from about how some retailers are
opening the containers before they are sold she said that she would
fire any of her employees that opened them or allowed another customer
to open them with purchasing. Sorry to be so long winded today. Have a

Why is this being sent to UK collectors when we still cannot take
advantage of applying for this card and we still cannot order online

chances of anyone getting a refund at this point will probably be very
slim. A hearing on the conversion to chapter 7 is scheduled for
November 19, 2001. I have been provided with the case info. If you
would like the case info.. email me and I'll forward it to you. If you

Last Saturday, I visited a story in our area that is only open on
Saturdays. It was like an early Christmas !! Everything except beanies
was 50% off (including this years Christmas Buddies, imagine 97 Teddy
for $5.00 !! ) Every now and then the owner does a little house
cleaning. She came across 12 Addison that she hadn't put out when they
were new. She also had several Peace bears. $5.99 for Peace or 5.99
for Addison !! WOW! Got me one of each! This store is an authorized dealer
so I have no concern that they may be fakes. The owner is just a
forgetful to put everything on the shelves. MY LUCKY DAY!!!"

If you're a collector, here's how to show it off
From: BeaneWonderland
The
thrill of discovery sometimes even the memory of where we've made it
feeds our urge to collect things. Found objects such as seashells
later remind us of a pleasant stroll on the beach. Vintage objects
inspire curiosity about their history. The desire to collect may take
root early in our lives, starting with Beanie Babies or Legos, Barbies
or baseball cards, mini-cars or stamps. We add to, upgrade and outgrow
our collections. But we always need an attractive way to display them.
The prevailing wisdom is to group all objects of a category. That's
good advice, particularly with small pieces that tend to look lonely
in pairs or solo. Full

Brenda shares the following:
Good Evening,Lisa! :-)
I just finished reading
your newsletter.
I read your article concerning;one's trust in the TY Retailer, from whom you purchase the CLUBBY IV Kits.
I have found;that I am a very lucky person,to have two (2) TY Retailers I feel I can trust. I have purchase three (3) CLUBBY IV Kits;from each of these TY Retailers, not one of the Kits had been opened. They were all un-opened Kits.
Of the six (6) CLUBBY IV Kits;that I purchased from them,I found 4 multi-colored and 2 silver button CLUBBY IVs. I gave one (1) of the CLUBBY IV Kits;with the multi-colored button,to my daughter for her collection. I will, probably, trade the other two (2) with other friends and collectors. But;I plan to keep the silver button ones.
Don't know;right now, whether or not I will purchase anymore CLUBBY IV Kits. The odds are a lot less on finding one (let alone finding two) gold button CLUBBY IVs. And;I do not ever expect;to be luck enough,to find an autographed button.
But;it has been fun, trying to collect three (3) out of the four (4) Kits. :D Thanks;for the informative newsletter,I enjoy reading them very much. Take care and have a nice weekend. Brenda

SPECULATION
SURROUNDS THE RED CROSS
From: Ms. Janie
There has been much
speculation through e-mail and on the cyberboards wondering if Ty will
retire America the Bear.
The Red Cross made an announcement that they would stop raising money
for the Sept 11th fund. It is unclear at this time if this
announcement will be reversed but the Red Cross has come under fire by
Lawmakers. This is very unfortunate as we all know how important the
Red Cross is and how they have helped millions over the years.
I would think that Ty may just change the tag on America and
send all future donations to the New York Police and Fire Widows
Children fund or pick another charity that supports 9-11 - I do not
believe that this Beanie is marked for retirement as it serves a VERY
important cause. Please be patient, if Ty changes anything I'm
sure they will inform us soon!
The Red
Cross estimates it will spend $300 million in the wake of the attacks.
But that means more than $200 million will be left. It was those
announcements -- as well as the decision to stop raising money for
the fund -- that drew fire from those who say the organization led
donors to think every penny they sent would go to helping those
affected by the attacks. Controversy about the fund was a factor in
Healy's resignation announcement last month. - HERE

Local girl sells toys
to help Afghan kids
From: BeaneWonderland
A nine-year-old
Edmonton-area girl is selling almost all her Beanie Babies toy
collection to raise money for children in war-torn Afghanistan. The
Grade 4 student from Spruce Grove, 27 km west of Edmonton, came up
with the idea in mid-October after her mom told her U.S. President
George Bush asked American children to help feed their counterparts in
Afghanistan. Full

Teenies Mentioned On
Regis
From: Beanieholics
Yesterday morning on 'Live with Regis and Kelly', Regis was
going over some faxes they had received from owners of small dogs.
('Live' is currently searching for the world's smallest grown dog.) In
one fax a person mentioned their dog Calvin, a Yorkie that weighs
about one pound and stated the dog has a wonderful personality and
likes to play with Teenie Beanie Babies. To which Regis said,
"Big deal."
Planet Beans Comments: I saw this show and had to laugh when Regis said "Big deal". He really has no clue does he? LOL

From: Ms. Janie
Tell me I haven't gone
over the edge? LOL! Actually all these Clubby's were ordered for friends
in the US, UK & Canada that did not have access to them. I just had

The
following is my reply to Sue!
Ok Sue!!! I want you to following my orders to the letter!
1. Pack a bag.
2. Kiss all family members and assure them that you will be just
fine.
3. Look for the white van to pull into your driveway in about 15
minutes.
4.. Go peacefully as they are there to help you.

A Note
From John
From: Ms. Janie
Hi Janie, Most everyone
knows by now that the "Any Servicemember" mail has stopped for
this year. I called the Red Cross office in Saudi today to see how that
affected delivery of Beanies that people were sending. She said that
they are not able to accept packages anymore. She stated that this is
most unfortunate because it was really starting to pick up since the
last time I spoke with her. Everyone who received one really appreciated
the fact the people back home had taken the time to think about them and
send something in hopes of boosting their morale. The Red Cross cannot
accept any packages until further notice unless they know exactly who
sent the package and where it's coming from. As we tried to figure out
how to keep this going, she came up with a great idea. She said people
"back home" could contact their local Red Cross office and see
if they could send the Beanies for them. Anytime a Red Cross office
sends a package to another Red Cross office, they inform them that a
package is on the way. She's not sure if all the local offices would be
willing to do this but thought that they would. Plus, it would be a good
way for people to learn what all their local Red Cross has to offer. It
would be worth checking out!
In other news, everyone knows that the humanitarian airlift that's dropping HDRs (Humanitarian Daily Rations) is based here at Ramstein. Today, I had the opportunity to assist with this. I and several other volunteers opened several thousand boxes of HDRs (there are 10 in a box) and dumped them into the large boxes that are being dropped from the planes. Everyone who is actually helping to load these boxes with HDRs are volunteers. They've actually had to turn people away because so many people want to help on a daily basis. Anyway, I was able to get one of the packages that the food is in. Everyone knows they're yellow plastic, but since most people have never seen one up close, I scanned the front of it so your readers can see what's actually on the outside. What a fantastic feeling it was being able to help out with this! I've been in the Air Force for 18 years now but have never been able to directly help with a humanitarian mission until today. I plan on volunteering at least several more times. It's back- breaking work with a lot of bending, stooping, twisting, and lifting, but it's well worth it. Knowing that you've possibly reduced someone elses suffering makes it all worth while.
If you
and your readers would like to find out more about Operation Enduring
Freedom and the humanitarian airlift, please go to the attached U.S. Air
Forces in Europe (USAFE) website. If you go to the "Imagery"
section, there are some great digital videos of the HDRs being dropped
out of the C-17s. http://www.usafe.af.mil/airdrop/home.html
As always, keep up the great work, and thanks again to you and your
readers for all you're support! John

comment - It would seem that Ty has requested all pre-sales to be
pulled from eBay. The old link on the Ty site is still working Click
here It could be that the rumours are correct and Godzilla &
King Ghidorah are going to be used for a film premiere on 15th December

Response
Update
From: BeaneWonderland
From the email: I agree with
the retailer that you featured this morning in regards to America,
Dianas butler and Ty shipments. I have been a retailer for 7 years and I
still get messed around each and every month. I used to always get my
complete shipment by the 10-12th of the month, now I get 12, sometimes
24 when I have ordered 36. I still have not had the Ty Signature 2001
bear and it is now in the 3rd month I have ordered it. My October
'America' order has still not yet been receiced and I am based in the
USA. We also have so many shelf sitters but if we do not order at
least the minimum of each catergory you can wait forever for your
beanies, its very aggrevating and getting worse.
JAPANESE EXCLUSIVES ARE CLASSICS
From: Underground Bean
"Hi Yavett, I'm passing on some information that a friend
of mine from Iwakuni, Japan told me. She read in the newspaper that the
two new exclusives will only be sold in the movie theatres, which will
be showing the Godzilla monster movie. The newspaper also reported
that the exclusives are Classics, with a height of 22cm and 25cm. It
also mentioned that there were only 100,000 of these creatures
available. They will be showing up in Japan, starting December 15,
2001. DreamSeeker"

Retailer Response
From: BeaneWonderland
From the email: I have
been a Ty account holder for several years and I have always followed
Ty's policy. I find it disgusting that myself and others have to wait
for our delivery of America so that this Paul Burrell fellow can be the
first with his new store. Does Ty not know about his background, the
Guardian article you shared yesterday quotes that, "He served for a
period on the princess's memorial trust before being dismissed in
acrimonious circumstances nearly three years ago". Why should
we wait for this bear, I want to sell it, my customers want to buy it
and the money will be going to the New York disaster fund. Why wait any
longer, the delay only serves into the hands of secondary dealers.
