Man Steals 140 Grand From Aunt
Mark Perri, along with an accomplice, went to visit Perri's 82-year-old aunt's home when she was hospitalized in February and cleaned it out, taking her life savings. Last week, Perri admitted the crime. His accomplice Samuel Miletto, also faces federal charges accusing him of cheating nine collectors out of a total of $20,000 through an e-mail ad promising "retired" and rare Beanie Babies at discount prices. LURKEY RETIREMENT?
From: Andrea's Attic
Some Ty retailers can be so predictable... One in particular is a very "high priority" account with Ty and tends to know when items will retire before anyone else does. Well, I visited her store yesterday to see a whole shelf full of Lurkey Beanies (roughly 24 of them). I bought one and happily walked on. I went back today...and they were all gone! I made a comment to the owner that "Those sure did sell fast!" and her response was "We had to take Lurkey off the shelf." She would not provide me with any further explanation, even though I asked "Why?" This retailer has in the past removed items from her shelves anywhere from one to two weeks in advance of their retirement...so maybe she knows something we don't?

Collectible Plush Are Best Sellers in September NEW Y0RK
From: Ms. Janie
Whether it’s actually being collected or not, collectible plush was the best seller in the plush category last month, according to the 300 randomly selected retailers for Giftware Business’ monthly POSWire survey. The ubiquitous Ty lead the pack, while The Boyds Collection was the second best-selling line of plush. THINGS THAT MAKE YOU GO HMMMM.. (totally unrelated to Beanies.. just thought I'd share!!)
I took my 3 kids to the grocery store yesterday after school. Since Brandon (21 months) loves Blues Clues I picked up a package of Blues Clues Band-Aids since they were only $0.99 I thought it would be handy in case he ever gets a boo-boo. Well he decided to open the box which I was unaware of and some had fallen out. Less than a second after this happened I turned around only to see a little girl about 10 years old bend over and pick them up. She looked around and put them in her pocket. I turned the cart around and went to the register that she and her Mother were standing at. I said, "excuse me.. those Blues Clues Band-Aids you picked up off the floor and put in your pocket fell out of this box my son was holding and I will need them back since I'm buying this box." She looked at me with this puzzled look and very hesitantly reached into her pocket and pulled them out. There must have been about 15 bandages in there. She handed them to me without so much as an I'm sorry I didn't realize they were yours or anything. Her Mother actually had the nerve to look at me and say, "the least you could do is thank her for picking them up for you!!". I looked at the Mother and said, "You've got to be kidding.. she picked them up off the floor after seeing my son drop them. Putting them in her pocket constitutes STEALING!!". And even more nerve she tells me, "If they were on the floor they didn't belong to you so she did nothing wrong by putting them in her pocket!!". I told her if my child had done that, I would let them know in front of whomever that it's not appropriate to do this. I couldn't help but let out a giggle as I was so appalled by her ignorance. I guess she didn't care that her daughter had done this and it's a shame that this little girl now thinks it's ok to pick things up off the floor and put them in her pocket. She was about 10 years old so she more than knew better. This is a grocery store .. do you think if a can of beans had fallen off of a shelf and been on the floor that her Mother would have felt the same way if her daughter were to be caught putting them in her pocket?! I don't think so!! <shaking my head> Some people just make you go hmmmmmm....

Beanie Baby show draws collectors and helps kids
From: Ms. Janie
Lin Dryer's entrepreneurial skills not only help her make a living, they also help save children's lives. Dryer, a Grand Rapids resident who promotes vendor shows featuring items like Beanie Babies, donates proceeds from the shows to charities across the state. Dryer will host a Beanie Baby and Pokemon show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Brann's Conference Center, 4945 Division Ave. Proceeds will go to the Children and Family Resource Council, which offers a variety of services in Kent County that help prevent child abuse and neglect. When people ask Dryer why there is a $2.50 admission price for adults to the shows, she explains that the proceeds go to abuse prevention. Dryer also sets out a jar for pennies if people want to toss in a little extra for the cause. While proceeds from Saturday's show -- which will feature new and retired Beanie Babies, Beanie Kids, Attic Treasures and Pokemon cards -- target violence prevention, a December show that Dryer is planning will have a more playful spin and help fund Toys for Tots. That show is Dec. 16, also at Brann's Conference Center. http://gr.mlive.com/news/index.ssf?/news/stories/20001024gwill24110304.frm

Hotels selling for more, so room rates will follow LODGING:
From: Ms. Janie
The most expensive local hotel bought during the first half of 2000 sold for $114,285 per room. Hotel room rates in Southern California are likely to rise because hotel buyers in the area are paying higher prices, according to a new study by Atlas Hospitality Group. Alan Reay, president of Atlas Consulting, said that as a rough rule of thumb, hotel buyers charge tourists 1 percent of the cost per room. So it is fair to say that rates will be rising with rising hotel prices. In Orange County, 19 hotels were sold in the first six months of this year, compared with 22 in the first half of 1999, the study found. The price paid per hotel room rose 27.2 percent to $66,603, compared with $52,361 per room in the first six months of 1999. The highest price paid in the county in the first half of 2000 was for the Casa Laguna Inn, at $114,285 per room. The largest hotel sold was the Ramada Inn Conestoga, at $12 million for 255 rooms. The most-expensive price paid in California was for the Four Seasons Biltmore in Santa Barbara at $641,026 per room. The hotel was bought by Ty Warner, founder of Beanie Babies, for $150 million. http://www.ocregister.com/entertainment/hotel01024cci.shtml

Ty Suing Mary Beth?
From: Bean eWonderland
Cool beans have listed all of Ty's lawsuits, one very interesting one  is "Case # 1:99cv01846   TY v. H&S Media Inc  filing date of  03/19/99 and updated on 05/02/00". I believe this means Mary Beths is being sued.

As of today we are very pleased to annonce that Lulu will be joing us with her very own section. The first articles will be posted later today.

HALO II BUDDY HANG TAG ERROR
From: Deb of Forever Collectible
As you can tell by the tag, there is an error on the last line. It should read "it's" instead of "it".

One has to wonder why so many Beanies have "error" tags. Maybe Ty needs some new "proof readers". Can't people read?! ;o)

I believe some of the errors are done on purpose so people will buy more of these Beanies. Perhaps there are times when a collector wouldn't buy a particular Beanie product but they see it has an error and they buy one just because they think they've found something very rare and special.

TY NEWSFLASH http://www.ty.com/announcements/newsflash_1025.html
Our product has recently appeared in a chain of discount / dollar stores. These plush toys were not purchased directly from Ty Inc., nor do we believe they were purchased from any authorized dealer. Based on the amounts involved, we believe these may be counterfeit, stolen or may have been sold by a charitable organization that received a donation from Ty Inc. We feel compelled to reaffirm that we do not sell to mass merchants, discount stores, and dollar stores.

This is an unfortunate situation and we are actively investigating this matter. In the interim, we ask all of our consumers to use caution when buying these plush toys as we cannot vouch for their authenticity.
BUYER BEWARE!

Beanies Not Dead
From: Bean eWonderland
Just a quick note to say I went to the Beanie & Pokemon fair at Kempton Park at the weekend. Whoever said beanies were dead might be have to eat there words. The queue outside when I turned up at 10.45 (opened at 10.30) must have had 200-300 people in it. It took me 25-35 mins to get in. Maybe this was just down to having 1 turnstile open but never the less a lot of people were out with money to spend. Inside it was a little chaotic, there were a lot of Nipponia's (£110-130) and Chinooks (£80-90) but Buckingham's were very very scarce and the ones that were around were about £75. Most dealers were after trading with anyone who had them - 3 Buckingham's got you 2 Nipponias. The big rush was for the NEW Clubby beanies and buddy's. I did not see 1 beanie, but the buddy's were about £25-35. Also the new Halo II buddy's were going well at around £20-25 (I must admit he looks really good) and the new Wallace at about the same. Germania Buddy's were also scarce but again people were buying. I also spotted a new Billionaire Bear III, she was amazing, but I did not have £2000 in my pocket. What I want to know is where have all the Buckingham's gone I thought all of these secondary buyers would have them all but they do seem to be very very scarce. WHERE HAVE ALL OUR BUCKINGHAM'S GONE!!!! Regards Jason

From: Ms. Janie
By Les and Sue Fox 216 Pages - All Color - $9.95 Subject to approval of a new licensing agreement with Ty, Inc., which broke down in negotiations in early 1999 and will be reinstated shortly, Les and Sue Fox have begun work on a brand new edition of The Beanie Baby Handbook, to be published in 2001 (or 2002.) As everyone knows, no other Beanie Baby book has ever generated the excitement of the Fox book, which sold 4,000,000 copies in 1997 and 1998, and remained at #2 on the New York Times bestseller list for 6 months. http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=476907135

BEANIES & ATTICS AT THE DOLLAR TREE
From: Becky
I am sure many of you read on the Ty Board and on Mary Beth's too.
I collect Attics , and so had posted on MB's that my local Dollar Tree had attics and some common Beanies in their Oakbrook boxes , sitting on the floor......and for sale.
I was sick when I saw them.
They had been gone through ..... and I did not see any HTF ones ..... just the poor little shelf sitters.
Other people had posted on the Ty Board,,,,,, I just saw the posts there tonight , and I responded.
So ..... this is not isolated  It is happening a lot of places !
I also posted this info on the Maisondours message thread today ..... and others have seen the same thing.
I am sorry gals , but I have to wonder how in the world the Oakbrook boxes got to my Dollar Tree ? The Attics or Beanies you can pass off lots of ways , but not those boxes.
Do any of the rest of you have anything to add ?
Oh yes....one other downer tonight..... On the Maisondours message thread , the people that manage that site announced a slight distancing from the Attics. And a leaning more toward other bears and designers. I love all their Attic info .... and will miss it so.

Planet Beans Comment: I find that a bit odd that the Oakbrook boxes would end up at the Dollar Tree. Something just sounds odd about that. I mean how many Ty Retailers would hold onto boxes?! Not many!!

Where is Buckingham
From: Bean eWonderland
One of our readers writes: I thought I would write and say how appalled I was on checking Ebay just now to see a sleeve of Buckinghams up for auction, they had the audacity to say that it would be very rare to get a sealed bag as Ty retailers were only receiving twelve Buckingham in their orders. I wonder then where this sleeve of twelve came from.  No doubt from one of the shops who tell me "We were expecting them in, but they weren't with the order"  I have enclosed the link for you to see yourself. Ty Prototype Up For Auction
From: Beanieholics
A Ty All-Gold Cat Nip Prototype is up for auction on eBay. Here is how it is described: "This rare Beanie is an original prototype for one of the first Beanies ever created, Nip the All-Gold Cat. This rare Beanie never had a swing tag, as this was a prototype made without a swing. The tush tag is unique, as is reads across: "Pax Trading Corp". The Beanie itself is mint. The body is all-gold, with pink whiskers, a pink nose and pink ears. The fabric of the body is plusher than regular production Beanies, as this is truly a prototype. This rare Beanie has been authenticated by Becky Phillips' Professional Bean Bag Authentication and Grading Service - PBBAGS"

Toys needed to help kids with HIV/AIDS
From: Ms. Janie
A toy drive has begun for the holiday season, and the Center for Positive Connections Support and Resource Center is looking for any donations. The Center will be holding its Kids Holiday Party, at which they will distribute the toys to children with HIV/AIDS. Mothers with infected children only get a $488 disability payment, which can leave much to be desired. The center is looking for toys, games, art supplies, clothing, shoes, portable tape and CD players, makeup, jewelry, teddy bears, trucks and cars (including remote control), sporting equipment and dolls, along with wrapping paper, tape and ribbons. The center would also like any VCR's, TV's, computers or bicycles that people might be willing to donate. Volunteers are also needed to wrap and prepare the gifts. All gifts are tax-deductible. Gifts can be dropped off at the Center at 12570 NE Seventh Ave., No. 104, in North Miami between noon and 8 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Center would like to have all donations by Dec. 1 so they can be addressed and distributed. eBay Pulls Auctions Featuring Beanies And WS Tickets
From: Beanieholics
Wanting to get tickets to the quickly approaching World Series? Some fans are willing to shell out big bucks to attend the Fall Classic. The way scalpers sell these highly sought after tickets has taken an interesting turn as they now use the Internet to reach more potential buyers. Some state laws prohibits reselling tickets for more than $1 over face value. That's why agencies are offering tickets in travel packages or with bonuses such as World Series souvenirs or tailgate parties. EBay sellers have been trying to unload World Series tickets for "free" along with overpriced Beanie Babies and other memorabilia. So, when prices started skyrocketing, eBay officials monitoring the site began pulling the items. eBay decided last year to follow the law in the state where the sporting event is being held. In this case, New York law forbids reselling tickets for more than $5 or 10 percent over face value. Click Here For More

Ty Cyber Boards
From: Bean eWonderland
Once again a big thank you to everyone for their support in the Ty Cyber Board incident. Many of you have commented on why the Moderators let this thread start in the first place. It is against their rules to mention web site names and many of you thought it was strange that a thread that attacks this web site was allowed to slip through. One of our advertisers has also suggested that they donate the next prize to a charity auction, (which was going to be a Germania), this way everyone can see exactly where the prize is going. I have decided to agree to this and will also donate a Maple Buddy out of my own collection. I would also like to ask Mr Warner if he would like to select the charity and match the combined highest bids as a gesture of goodwill for allowing the incorrect and slanderous thread to appear in the first place.

RETAILER ORDERING LIMITS?
From: Andrea's Attic
Spoke with a retailer today who was able to order 36 of each of the new Holiday 2000 Beanies and 6 each of the new Holiday Buddies. But, what is so odd about this is this is the THIRD order this month alone they have been able to place for these quantities on the Ty Retailers website. They do not know if they will ship, but have never been able to order 3 times in one month before. Perhaps the retailer's website is suffering a glitch?

Fake Contest Comment
From: Bean eWonderland
The following message on the Ty Cyber Boards made by the user 'biglady' is of great concern to us. I would like for you all to read it and I will clear-up any concerns that you may have. Firstly ALL contests are genuine, I will gladly give you any contact emails for the various sponsors who have donated the prizes. Next the false advertising, yes we asked you to visit sponsors in order to obtain the answers, is this not what it is all about, if we did not increase the traffic flow to the sponsors then they would not be interested in donating prizes. Yes we asked you to click a few pay-per click banners, but with the proceeds we purchased the bears for the Country Exclusive competition (which was a free draw, no clicking and no answering questions). We only print the winners name and not where they come from for security reasons, many of you have large collections and it would not be hard for a thief in the area to track you down with a name and contact address. Finally we do not have competitions to increase traffic, we want people to visit because they like the site, in fact the hits never go up when we have a competition. So 'biglady' please get your facts correct, you write a lot of slanderous material and I guess you are just a bad loser.

Planet Beans Comment: Sore loser indeed!! Nobody has a right to go accusing people of putting up false contests. Richard is one of the more honest people out there in beanie land. I think this person owes you an apology for being rude. MY REPLY

Flea Market Beanies
From: Bean eWonderland
Please I hope you read this email and I really hope that you print this out
for all of the collectors to see. I recently went into my local craftstore Called Timeless Memories which is only a few blocks from my home and a block from where I work. I went in to get a candle and I was hoping to get lucky enough to find some new beanies. As I'm browsing through the store I overheard an associate talking to another associate and she said "The lady from the flea market called and said that there were no more of the 2000 holiday beanies left and wanted to see if you were going to bring her down some more". "yes" was the reply so I paid for my candle and I went to my vehicle.  As I was getting ready to pull out I watched the same associate that said yes walk out of the store carrying a garbage bag so I thought to myself uh huh? I love playing detective so I followed  her and here she goes to the flea market and she gets out and carries her bag inside.  I followed her in and sure enough as I'm pretending to browse around she pulls out some new Zodiac beanies and some other of the new releases and then Guess what The 3 new Holiday beanies. Now this is unfair, no wonder there are never any new beanies to be found on the shelf. And Ty is still shipping beanies to here store. (Bean eWonderlands comments -You should report concerns like these to namenames@ty.com, but thank you for sharing this with us).

New UK Exclusive Update
From: Bean eWonderland
My source could not pass on any further details regarding another UK exclusive, one of our regulars did point out the following: No country outside of the USA has ever had more than 1 exclusive simultaneously with another, which would indicate an early retirement for Buckingham. Also worth bearing in mind that today is the official birthday of Buckingham. Unless of course it is a Beanie Buddy?

EBay: TV or Not TV
From: Ms. Janie
EBay has long been something of an aberration among Internet retailers. With a distinct and successful business model, the online auctioneer has proved a sensation at viral marketing: Nearly all of its 16 million users were drawn to the site via word of mouth. The company hasn't wrapped a fleet of taxicabs in its logo, spent millions on television advertising or sent employees into the street to hand out free Beanie Babies. The closest thing it's done to traditional marketing is some portal deals with America Online and Disney's Go.com. But five years after it launched, eBay has decided that viral is no longer enough. After a joint advertising campaign with Visa that was broadcast during the television show Survivor and the Olympics (and was paid for by the credit card manufacturer), eBay is preparing to run its own ads early next year. The details are still being worked out, and company executives won't discuss the campaign's theme or cost. Not surprisingly, though, eBay's new television strategy differs from that of even the most creative dot-com companies. For one, the auctioneer's clout has landed it millions of dollars in free advertising. In addition to the Visa campaign, eBay has signed partnerships with several cable networks for tie-ins and promotions during key moments in their shows. For example, a show on the History Channel called History's Lost and Found began its new season last week. Among other items, the show featured one of two deck chairs retrieved from the Titanic. How to get this item into your living room? Log on to eBay, of course, where the chair's price climbed past $180,000. http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/is/20001014/bs/ebay_tv_or_not_tv_1.html

ONE TO SHARE FROM MS. JANIE
From: Ms. Janie
LOL ... society surely has changed when they start giving financial examples using Beans. The next article is posted using the word Beanies just to rank in the search engines. Although everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion, I feel this article goes to the extreme. BUT as always, it's news and I'll allow you to be the judge. Ms. Janie What a put is Wondering what a ``put'' is, or why anyone would want to buy such an esoteric instrument in the first place? Consider the wholly fictional case of a store owner and a toy collector who trades in Beanie Babies. Anticipating the holiday shopping season, the store owner and the trader meet at a deli one early fall afternoon. Worried that he has amassed a huge number of Beanie Babies that might go down in value, the trader is looking for a kind of insurance, a buyer who will protect him from losses. The store owner, confident of demand for the dolls, is willing to provide it for a fee. Over the blueberry cheesecake, the store owner promises the trader a deal. Come mid-December, the trader will have the right to sell his Beanie Babies to the store for $1 apiece. To insure this price, the trader has to pay 10 cents per doll in advance. Because Beanie Babies are selling at flea markets for less than $1 now and could fall even more, the trader agrees to the deal. He gives the store owner $10 for the rights to sell his 100 Beanie Babies. In return, the store owner gives him a note, or put. Because of a successful advertising campaign, the market price for Beanie Babies soars to $2. And when mid-December comes, the deal falls apart. The trader, happy the price has gone up, isn't interested in selling dolls for $1. He accepts the lost fee of $10 as a cost of the insurance. The store owner happily stuffs the $10 in his pocket. http://www.mercurycenter.com/premium/business/docs/herholdside.htm

A BIG RETIREMENT COMING?
From: Andrea's Attic
I had a lovely conversation with a Ty retailer today, and she mentioned that I should get Cheezer, Peekaboo, Fetcher and Sniffer while I still can as they will be retiring soon. Of course, she also said these were part of a larger retirement that was to be announced toward the end of October. I personally think it would be great since these Beanies have already paid their dues sitting on retailer's shelves. I would like to say that my retailer source has always been accurate in the past, as her Ty rep actually lives in the same house as her (she rents a room), but because we cannot predict the future, these are still considered rumors :-)

BEANIE MARKET ON THE DECLINE?
From: Andrea's Attic
I visited a Beanie show in Southern California tonight, and sadly, there were very few Beanie stands left open! Many had been replaced by Razor scooter stands and baseball and comic book stands. I also noticed that the stands left open only had recently released Beanies, the oldest Beanie I could find was a Sting. I spoke with a man that I had come to know through several Beanie transactions of my own who has a Beanie stand there. I asked if the Beanie market was so slow that several dealers closed shop, and he responded in a soft whisper..."No, it has nothing to do with the Beanie market...the government came in a week ago and seized tons of counterfeit Beanies." Apparently, these counterfeits were the bread and butter of these secondary dealers, and undercover agents had been frequenting the shows for quite some time now. However, I would expect nothing less, as this is Southern California, and as you probably know, Southern California has quite the reputation for producing counterfeit Beanies. I would also like to add, this was not the first, nor the second time this show had been raided for counterfeits, so I highly recommend you completely inspect all Beanies at shows before purchasing. On a side note...I guarantee all of my Beanies are 100% authentic, so no need to worry when you purchase from Andrea's Attic!

Ty Tops Plush, Collectible and Under $10 Categories for October
From: Ms. Janie
New York-Reports of Ty Inc.'s demise have been greatly exaggerated. The company edged out The Boyds Collection as the top-selling collectibles line for retailers in September, but enjoyed more comfortable margins as the top-selling plush and Under-$10 line. No other company came near Ty as the No. 1 seller in those two categories. In plush, Ty's mark of 72 first-place votes was 43 votes better than second-place Boyds. And in the Under-$10 category, the company scored 56 first-place votes, followed by Yankee Candle's 11.

3 must repay $16,400 in Toy Scam
From: Bean eWonderland
A Newark woman and her two sons have been ordered to repay $16,400 to buyers of fake Beanie Babies sold over the Internet. Judge Gregory Frost of Licking County Common Pleas Court ordered the restitution Sept. 18 as part of a suit brought by Ohio Attorney General Betty D. Montgomery against Brenda R. Theos and her sons Shawn and Chris. Frost also suspended $70,000 of a $75,000 civil penalty provided the Theoses abide by the court order, which permanently bans them from using the Internet to sell merchandise. Resorts Beanies
From: Bean eWonderland
Hi I don't want my name mentioned but I know the resorts Casino in Atlantic City are holding a Beanie Baby promotion. They are giving out 3 different Beanies with resorts names embroided onto them. The 3 Beanies in mention are Loosey, Gracie and Jake. They have the name embroided on their wings and inside their hang tag is a sticker that says "Born At Resorts Casino on October 10th". I know that they are very limited and the hardest one to get is Loosey because for every 100 Gracies there is just 1 Loosey. If you would like to follow this up you can call the Resorts Casino and they should tell you. (Bean eWonderlands comment - We cannot confirm this story but if any of our friends in the USA would like to give them a call and let us know it would be appreciated. I would imagine that if it is true Ty knows nothing about it).

eBay launches TV ad campaign
From: BeaNGO

EBay has long been something of an aberration among Internet retailers. With a distinct and successful business model, the online auctioneer has proved a sensation at viral marketing: Nearly all of its 16 million users were drawn to the site via word of mouth. The company hasn't wrapped a fleet of taxicabs in its logo, spent millions on television advertising or sent employees into the street to hand out free Beanie Babies.

Ms. Janie analyzes the collectibles market
From: Ms. Janie
Is it a typical trend or are we being over cautious? Depending on whom you talk with or what part of the country they live in the majority of retailers and manufactures will all agree on one thing, the collectibles market has taken a hiatus. The general mood of collectors has turned from a spending frenzy to one of browsing with very little buying. Retailers are still very optimistic about fourth quarter sales and are hoping for strong sales through Christmas. This trend can be contributed to this year's election. Consumers often are cautious around these times even if the economy is good. In some areas the collectibles market has been taking a downward spiral for the past six months and reports indicate that some markets are down as much as 55% compared to this time last year. Larger manufactures will survive the 4th quarter while smaller businesses will have to work harder to make that final sale. I predict after the election collectors will realize that their hobbies will go on and they will continue with their buying sprees. The collectibles market is not alone when it comes to consumers buying habits. Retailers across the country are reporting slower sales in most categories including, giftware, cards, stationary, clothing, cars, toys, etc. ect. Increased competition has hampered many markets not to mention the rising cost of gasoline, food and clothing. I say keep optimism high and shop till you drop. Here's hoping for a rich and rewarding 4th quarter for retailers and lots of sales for consumers. Ms. Janie

Are you a woman who obsesses over shoes?
From: Ms. Janie
If so, you will not want to miss my next article on collectible shoes. Just the Right Shoe An obsession with feet Women have many obsessions but their obsession with shoes dates back to the dawn of time. This obsession has exploded from the closet and has now turned into one of the fastest selling collectibles on the market. How far we have come…our feet have always been a very important part of our wardrobe and have in most cases matched our outfit of the day. Our closets are stuffed to the gills with at least 10 to 20 pairs of various shoes, which have now been cleverly designed and sculpted into the hottest selling porcelain collectible around. http://www.msjanie.com/miniatures/shoe_obsession.html

Ty Has Big Plans For Biltmore
From: Beanieholics

Beanie Babies magnate Ty Warner has big plans for renovating his newly acquired Four Seasons Biltmore Hotel in Montecito, including transforming the adjacent Arco conference center into a private spa for hotel guests. He also wants to put in hundreds of underground parking spaces and tear down a two-story building, jokingly referred to by his architects as the "Days Inn" section. Ty considers it too tacky to be part of a first-class hotel with the history and charm of the 73-year-old Biltmore. Proposed renovations will cost in the tens of millions of dollars. There are also plans for the Coral Casino Ty owns across the street and possibly two parcels of land directly west of the hotel that have been purchased since May. (Thanks Leslie for the news tip.) TY STILL CLOSING DOWN ACCOUNTS
From: Andrea's Attic
After the huge response from our members about closing down Ty retailer accounts in their neighborhoods, I decided I would do a bit of research on my own yesterday. I drove around a good portion of Southern California yesterday, visiting every flower shop I knew had carried Beanies.

Here are the startling results: *6 Flower Shops visited* 5 closed Ty accounts Of these 5 closed Ty accounts, 1 was in March 2000, 1 in January 2000 and 3 were in December 1999. All of these retailers received a letter from the Ty company stating that they no longer fit into Ty's "niche" for a retailer.

And what about the 6th Ty retailer? Ty has not sent them a shipment since early April 1999! Their calls were flat out ignored to the Ty company and their Ty rep. Then they found that their Ty rep. had been laid off. They still put in one call a month to the Ty company, but with no answers. This is very sad considering they had carried Ty in their store for over 7 years!

Have retailers been shut down in your area? E Mail Andrea@andreasattic.com and tell us about it!
