Info Beanie posts the following:
Tuesday October 30, 2001 9:09 p.m. What a great day! We are having the best time with our guests! More retired Beanies have been arriving all day and they are all so nice! I especially like Nip and Zip! They are so much fun to play with. They told me all kinds of stories about how they would chase each other around until they couldn’t remember who was chasing whom! That was really funny because that just happened to Beani and me last week! Our friends at Ty said that the rest of the retired Beanies would be here tomorrow morning. I wonder how many more that will be, there are already over a hundred here! We have to get everyone ready for bed and figure out where everyone is going to sleep! I'll talk to you in the morning! Good night! http://www.ty.com/infobeanie/lastpage/

TY SIGNED CLUBBY IV FOUND
This was sent to several of us Webmasters
"Hi all.  Sorry about the mass mailing but I'm so amped I had to write to all my favorites sites.
Yesterday the Clubby IV Beanies hit town and I picked one up on my afternoon break.  The store
clerks were talking about the odds of getting a Ty signed button.  "Not good," I said, "but I'm
sure there will be people out there who are on a mission to get a signed one and buy a ton
Clubby IVs on the way.  I'm just hoping to get all three buttons without buying too many extras
along the way." I have had the pleasure of finding a gold BBOC collector card (Steg from the
fourth series) and a co-worker of mine found a Mr Beanie Baby bear without his wedding rings
which we sold on eBay for a nice sum.  Other than that, for all my years of collecting these little
critters, I haven't come across any earth-shattering find.  This, however I consider to be
something to get excited about.  I'm sure none of you will get excited till I get my butt
downstairs, scan him and send the pic to you--which I will do, at lunch.  Sound like a deal?
Talk to ya then.  Thanks." HJ  :-) Madison, WI
"As promised, I am sending you all scans of my newest find--a signed Clubby IV. Two pics aren't
that great, but one is OK looking. I'm just sending all three scans so you get different views
of the pin (not much difference, but a little). Oh, by the way, the pin is of the silver variety.
Gotta go, lunch is over. Thanks guys!!" Enjoy! HJ :-)

The final entries have been collected for the Halloween Contest at Ty.com. Good luck to each of you. I don't know anyone that has won personally. If you are a winner and can provide pictures of your winnings.. please contact me at GotBeans@yahoo.com

Three Buttons
After much running around today, I was able to purchase several Clubby IV's in sealed containers.  Imagine my surprise when I opened them to check the button colors.  I expected the first one to have the normal multi-colored button but no, it was silver.  My excitement grew as I opened a second one.  Alas, the multi-colored button was revealed when I removed the Ty sticker.  Okay, now for the third.  YES...YES...YES...GOLD!  Wow, I found one of each!  I have attached a photo of the three buttons.  My apologies for the silver one in the middle.  It did not photograph as well as the other two because the silver is much more reflective. Yoke's Update
From: BeaneWonderland
From the email Nancy writes: I live in Spokane, Washington and found your article about Yokes grocery store very interesting. I followed the link to your story from the Planet Beans news page. Yokes has not carried beanies for almost a year and a half.  Most "beanie people" here believed that they no longer carried beanies because Ty found out that the flower shop was actually part of a grocery store.  Your article seems to indicate differently.  Then again, most flower shops got notice that their Ty accounts were cancelled last year, so we figured that could be the reason also.

I must admit that Yokes is where I bought my first beanie, Mystic the unicorn, and I also got my first Princess beanie from a drawing Yokes held.  The scene on arrival of new beanies was quite a spectacle -- people grabbing beanies from out of the hands of children, out of grocery carts, playing tug-of-war with that coveted bear.  I've heard it would get quite ugly at times. I love your website and thank you for keeping us fanatics up-to-date on the world of beanies! Nancy.

Issy's Galore! ~ Neat Picture
From: Ms. Janie
A special thanks to Gill and Rob for sharing their Issy collection. Hi Janie, how are you today, it has been very wet here this morning but I am glad to say that it is brightening up now, the sun is shining but it is a very watery sun, no doubt more rain on the way. I just had to send you the pictures of Rob's full Issy collection you know he had the full set of 48 well he has now got the other 15 making a complete set of 63, he is so proud of his collection, and I just thought that you and the other beanie collectors out there would love to see them too. I think he has done a really good job putting the corresponding flags of the countries with the bears, as you can see they have been taken out of there individual display boxes and put into proper display cases they certainly look better in there. Hope you enjoy them. http://www.msjanie.com/typhotos/full_issycollection.html

Yoke’s move to expand came after steady growth
From: BeaneWonderland
Ask John Bole, CEO of Yoke’s Washington Foods Inc., the secret to the success of the Spokane-based chain of nine grocery stores, and he’ll tell you the story about the floral department manager who wanted to sell Beanie Babies. “The store manager knew it was a mistake. The floral merchandiser knew it was a mistake,” he recalls with a wry smile. “Heck, I knew it was a mistake, but I said, ‘If she wants to do it, go for it. How much can we lose?’”

To his surprise, the Oak Brook, Illinois-based Ty Inc.’s Beanie Babies became a nationwide sales sensation, and Yoke’s ended up being one of the few grocery chains in the country with a contract to distribute the highly-sought items. Full Story:

Ty Store - Japan (Update)!
From: Doodle's Page
The first anniversary of Ty Store in Japan (Yokohama Motomachi) is coming up ... the Store opened on November 3, 2000. It is rumored "there may be some events" in celebration of the one-year anniversary of the official opening ... perhaps the sale of the Black Batty Buddy? On October 16th, Kooler reported to us that a "Halloween pack" was being shipped to several retailers in Japan. 'Batty' Buddy (mocha color) could already be purchased; however, some stores apparently were to receive a limited quantity of 'Black Batty' Buddy (listed as a 'special'). Kooler further stated 'since there is only a few, it sells by drawing lots." He will visit Ty Store on November 3rd and keep us posted.

Bongo Promo in Japan - Promo #3!
From: Doodle's Page
11:30 am EDT ... We first reported Exclusive news on July 21st, of the first Sports Promo in Japan. At that time, Kicks Beanie Baby was given out to the first 3,000 women and children who attended the Shimizu S-Pulse soccer game. There was no promotional tag, however a card did accompany the Kicks Beanie. On September 29th, the same soccer team again distributed a Sports Promo Beanie ... Quackers (given to the first 5,000 women and children) along with a similar card. Several pictures are shown in a Yahoo! Japan Auction showing both Beanies and their cards.

Ty Japan is now offering a 3rd Promo!
'Bongo' the monkey will be distributed in a game of the Yokohama F-Marinos (J-League). This Beanie Baby will be distributed to the first 15,000 women and children who attend the game of the 'F-Marinos' vs Antlers' on November 3, 2001. It is expected that a similar 'card' will accompany this Beanie as with the first two promos. Click here to visit the Yokohama F-Marinos website

A GREAT HALLOWEEN IDEA
From: Ms. Janie
An experience to remember! If you do not participate in Halloween activities you may wish to scroll down past this note. Ms. Janie

This evening while visiting with my family and talking about the day's events the doorbell rang. David went to the door and nobody was there. He then came back into the family room carrying a pumpkin full of candy. He was so excited and wanted to sit down and have at the goodies. Me being a typical mom starting yelling, "don't eat that candy". I took it away from him and wondered who had left it.

Inside the pumpkin I found a poem that read "We've Been Boooed"! Thinking that this was a little odd I starting looking further and then found a piece of paper that had a poem written on it. Read the poem http://www.msjanie.com/typhotos/we've_been_booed.html

As I read the poem I realized that this was a rather cute idea and I wanted to participate. At the bottom of the pumpkin was a note from one of my neighbors clueing me in on what was going on and how I should join in on the fun. She also listed names of other neighbors who had already received this pumpkin and ask that I pass it along to another neighbor.

The goodies inside the pumpkin were geared towards my children. Some of them included bookmarks with my kids name on them and a nice Christian saying. It also included lots of candy and little reading pamphlets.

For a split second I literary forgot about the uncertainty our country was facing and felt like a kid all over again. I'm sure many of you can relate to that feeling and that's why I encourage you to play along. Brighten up your neighbors day by sending a Phantom pumpkin and watch them smile.

Please remember to include a personal note informing the receiver who sent the pumpkin and instructions on how to keep the game going.

My note read as follows:
Dear Daniels Family,
Here's a little gift from the secret pumpkin!

It seems our neighborhood is adopting a new tradition and we are participating.

I'm including this note so you know whom it's from and that the treats are safe. I hope you enjoy them.

Signed - Dixie (my neighbor)

PS - The Secret Pumpkin has visited the following neighbors. *** *** *** *** *** *** *** ***

At this point all of the neighbors who have participated have their names listed. You are suppose to pick someone NOT on the list and when you write your note include your name at the bottom.

GrammaPat writes: Please be sure to check Traderlist Caution message board every day for new alerts on Bad Traders. We have been told that lots of counterfeit Maples with fifth generation tags have been for sale this week. Many of the dealers may not even realize they have fakes. Save all receipts, and emails and a copy of the auction, and be sure that the seller guarantees his product to be authentic. TOPICA NEWSLETTER PROBLEMS
A note from Ms. Janie (she also uses Topica for her newsletters):
OK guys here is the bottom line. AOL considers newsletters as spam! They need to update their ISP and change their spam filters or Topica will not be allowed to send newsletters. I would strongly encourage you to contact them, copy and paste Topica's explanation from my website for them to view and ask them what they plan on doing about it! I spent most of the day coping and pasting MANY AOL addresses into a new account I have set-up to ensure you get your daily newsletter. I have also been told that CompuServe members are also experiencing problems and that this company is owned by AOL. There also seems to be a problem with WEBTV users who have the older program.

Megan does it again!
From: Ms. Janie
Check out her incredible story and photos at the following link, thanks Megan! Hi, Ms. Janie, Isabella has been after me to do another beanie story, and she finally told me that I needed to finish it last night after she and her sister went to bed. LOL! I made the final changes on it this morning before preschool, and the girls seem happy with my efforts: http://stpwh01.atl.mediaone.net/scottmegan2/dragon.html

It is rather graphic intensive again, but hopefully it won't take too long for you to see. I probably should sign on using a regular modem to see how bad it is. Today has been a good beanie day: not only did I finish my story, but I was able to get the Christmas bear beanies today and a Clubby IV beanie. Woo-hoo! I hope that you are doing well! Megan

TAMPERING OF CLUBBY IV
From: Ms. Janie
Hello Ms. Janie! I wanted to write and tell you that I too have had a unfavorable experience purchasing Clubby IV- all the Clubbys in my favorite (once favorite that is) local store had been tampered with. The tape that is supposed to seal the lid was pulled back, and the job was not even a sneaky one because they left a rip in the tape when they reapplied it. The button was of course not a signed one and you could also tell its cover had been lifted and placed back over to hide its identity. I knew going in on this buy it was a long shot to find a TY signed button, but I still had an inkling of hope that maybe my retailer would not stoop to these poor business practices. I mentioned to another beanie friend of mine just yesterday that if these retailers were lifting the tape to find themselves a signed beanie it was bad enough, but to sell these on the "bay" is just dishonorable. I have a felling, as another reader of yours suggested, that we will see quite a few signed Clubby IV out there by the same seller. Well, I am of course disappointed but at the same time a bit happy that I at least got one of the first shipments of the new Clubby. Your friend, Jenny

Store offers toys for all ages
From: BeaneWonderland
Toys In The Attic is no longer just the name of an Aerosmith album. It is the name of a unique little toy store on Main Street in Phoenixville. From sports cards to Beanie Babies and bobble-head dolls, Toys In The Attic isn't just for kids alone. "We definitely have a lot to offer everyone of all ages," said Lowery. "Cards like Magic and Pokemon are still extremely popular and sell very quickly." Towards the back of the store, which is lined with video games and movies for sale, sets a table so customers can open and trade cards. Full Article:

CLUBBY 4 KITS SHIPPING
/KIT DESCRIPTION
Sherry shares the following:

Hello, everyone! The Clubby 4 kits are shipping. I picked up one today. Here's the skinny on the kits:

The kit comes in a plastic cylinder that has tape with the Ty logo on it over the top. This is to prevent tampering.

Clubby 4 is available with three different pins. Mine has the silver background (but not signed by Ty :-() Ty is very smart -- they put a sticker over the pin so you can't see which pin you are getting.

There is no new BBOC offer that comes with the kits. The kits have the order form for the existing BBOC offer (i.e. Clubby 4 Buddy, Cuddly Crystal Bopper and Clubby Jingle Beanies). So this squelches the rumor that there would be an additional offer available via the kits.

There is a registration form in the kit, so if you are not a Gold/Platimum member who had their new membership automatically sent, you can just fill out the form and get a membership number.

The kit cost me $7.99.

I hope this helps! Good luck finding one of you are looking! :-)Sherry

AOL Users having problems receiving mail from Topica
Ms. Janie received the following reply from Topica:
Hello,

Topica users may have noticed an increase in delivery problems to various ISPs including AOL subscribers recently.

In investigating this issue, we discovered that not all ISPs had updated to our new IP address space. Our technical staff has been in communication with these ISPs, and requested that the problem be corrected. We anticipate that all updates will be made and have delivery of Topica messages back to normal soon.

October 19th, PDT.

Please note that none of these user addresses were bounced, however, some deliveries to users may have been caught by ISPs' spam filters. To view any missing mail, please advise users to read your list archives on the Topica website (users must be registered to use this Topica feature).

Our apologies to those of you who have been inconvenienced by this event. We look forward to a speedy resolution.

EBay Quarterly Profits Up 24 Percent
From: Ms. Janie
(Associated Press) Shares of eBay Inc. fell more than 12 percent in trading Friday even though the Internet auction company beat analysts' forecasts with a 24 percent rise in quarterly profits. For the full story, go HERE

Holy Beanie Babies, eBay (Nasdaq: EBAY) is still hot. The online auctioneer trounced expectations and bid up its fourth-quarter prospects. Quarterly earnings came in at $0.12 a share on a 71% surge in sales to $194.4 million. It's also raising the ante for the current period. While the company was originally expecting December-quarter revenue to come in between $195 million and $205 million, it is now hiking up both ends of the range by an extra $5 million. The strong showing and bar raising is an impressive feat as the company is a month into its 100-day Auction for America in which it is waiving its fees for charitable listings.

Ty's Info. Beanie Writes
From: Ms. Janie
Monday October 15, 2001 9:04 p.m. We were able to paint some pumpkins tonight. We took three pumpkins about the same size and painted one letter on each of them. We painted a “B”, “O” and “O”. We painted each letter a dark green to match the stem. They look totally cool. Halloween can be such fun to decorate for. I was told that our friends at Ty are going to have their annual ‘Dress Your Beanie for Halloweenie Contest’. Our friends make some of the neatest things and I can’t wait to see what they come up with this year. It’s time for me to get to bed. Good night! http://www.ty.com/infobeanie/lastpage/

Sally Winey's Centennial Bear
From: Ms. Janie
An Online Bearmaking Class from Teddy Bear and Friends Celebrate the teddy bear's 100th birthday by making Sally's 12-inch, fully jointed Centennial Bear for yourself or for a special gift. Inspired by the Smithsonian's 1903 teddy bear from the Ideal Toy Co. and by the teddy bear's centennial in 2002, Sally has created her representation of this famous bear as a way to say, "Happy Birthday, Ted." Not only will you commemorate history and make a wonderful bear in this class, but Sally will share the tips she's acquired in her years as a bear artist. Sally has been making bears since 1983, and since then, she's done it all--as an individual artist, as a designer for manufacturers, as a bear shop owner, as the central figure in her own bear company, and as a teacher. Don't miss out! Class begins October 15 and will remain on a password-protected area of our Web site through November 15. The cost is only $50. During this time period, you can take this class day or night, at your convenience, and at your own pace. Sally will be there, via e-mail, to answer all your questions along the way. Not only will you have ample time to get your questions answered and your bear made, but you can complete this class even if your car's in the shop, your child has the flu, and you're out of clean clothes. http://www.teddybearandfriends.com/sally.html

I also see a number of auctions for the America Teddy, so I guess eBay changed their policy & is letting them be sold now. View Auction 2  View Auction 1 Their presell Dutch auction for FIVE HUNDRED America's (I also saw another of theirs for 200 more, plus several others for lesser amounts): I can't even find 1, I wonder how they plan to get 700+ to sell.

There was no promotional tag, however a card did accompany the Kicks Beanie. On September 29th, the same soccer team again distributed a Sports Promo Beanie ... Quackers (given to the first 5,000 women and children) along with a similar card. Several pictures are shown in a Yahoo! Japan Auction showing both Beanies and their cards, if you wish to take a peek.

Black Batty Appearing?
From: Doodle's Page
Speaking of Japan, apparently a "Halloween pack" is being shipped to several retailers there. 'Batty' Buddy (mocha color) can be purchased in Japan; however, some stores will apparently receive a limited quantity of 'Black Batty' Buddy, listed as a 'special'. 'Kooler' states 'since there is only a few, it sells by drawing lots'. (Sounds familiar, don't you think?)

Sad News from BeanyBabys.com
BeanyBabys.com has some very sad news for our readers and visitors.
Unfortunately, our personal circumstances changed recently beyond our control and we no longer have time to run our site. We adore Beanie Babies and many other Ty products and have been avid collectors since 1996, when we discovered the whole world of Ty Merchandise at a local Toy Store. From that day on, we have been 'Beanie addicts' and have been hooked on collecting. We decided to open a website to share news with other collectors, we have grown and improved and as we were just getting started, our family circumstances no longer make the running of the site possible. UK Bean Bag World Hits The News Stands.
From: Ms. Janie
Subscribers have already received their copies and reviews are GREAT! Check out a photo of the editor Daphne and read what you can expect to find in this month's issue of this only magazine of its kind! There will also be a link available of the front cover of the November issue to view. http://www.msjanie.com/typhotos/Daphne_Roberts.html

Daphne shares the following:
As the only bean bag collectable magazine worldwide, at Bean Bag World we're eager to strive to develop the magazine to make it what collectors want and need. I've had a number of emails from people in the USA and Canada asking about availability of the magazine over there. Unfortunately at the moment there's little definite to report. We would, of course, be pleased to hear from any potential distributors in any country throughout the world.

There are a lot of collectors out there and it's only the UK collectors who have this magazine at the moment There are a lot of exciting features planned for the magazine in future months. A particularly exciting one (I think, anyway!) is a big feature on Ty Europe's new markets - they're reaching places you'd not imagine and we have the scoop on this for the December issue (out early November in the UK)

We're not only covering Ty products: there will be information and features on all sorts of bean bag products, including Disney, the brand new bears from Chubbley Bears, exciting new Celebrity Bears, Treasured Pals ... and so many more excellent manufacturers

Competitions will feature each month with exclusive items to be won. We even have special limited edition toys signed by the designers! I shall say no more, but just want to say to people, 'please buy the magazine and do enjoy it ... and tell me your views - daphne@mbbbw.co.uk will get straight to me'

America Question
From: Bean eWonderland
From the email: I would like to know if it is true that the retailers who received their first shipment of 24 America bears were also given a letter of some sorts or a communication on the retailers web site, allowing them to sell these particular beanies for as much money as they could to generate more donations for the "American Red Cross Disaster Fund"?

I have already made a generous donation to the fund and could not afford to make an additional donation to the fund in order to get the beanie, so I was not able to buy one. I even brought my thank you letter from the American Red Cross showing that I had already made the donation. I would really appreciate knowing if this is what Ty had in mind with the first 24 of the America beanies was to raffle them and make people donate extra money to get them?

The store said the next shipment of the America bear could not be sold for over the $5.00 to 7.00 dollar range, which I had always thought was the case. The consumer site never mentioned you would have to give a donation to get this bear, or I would have given a little less in my first donation I made the day after the terrorist attacks to save for this particular donation, but never did I think from reading the announcement on the Ty site that this would happen this way.

You're probably saying I will be able to get this bear in time, but my dilemma is that the bear was going to be put in a charity basket along with all the other "Americana" type beanie bears and buddies that I need to have ready for October 10th, thank goodness that deadline has now been moved to Monday. So that will work out, because I'm sure more America bears will be sent to other retailers by then. Thank you for always providing such good information... I appreciate your site. Mary Lou

Bean eWonderlands comment - We thought who better to ask than Bill, a retailer and someone who does have access to the retailers web site in the U.S and here is what he informed us:

As far as I know the dealers here in the USA only received 12 America bears and there is no letter or correspondence that any one received. They were to sell the america bear at normal retail of no more than 7.00. I heard that there was a shop in harlem n y that Ty sent 24 America bears to and those could be auctioned off with all the proceeds going to the 9-11 disaster fund..

Travel Slump Halts Luxury Hotels Sale
From: Beanieholics
The sale of two of London's most glamourous hotels is almost certain to be shelved in the wake of the atrocities in the United States and ensuing attacks on Afghanistan. The Lanesborough at Hyde Park Corner, dubbed the most expensive hotel sale ever, is understood to have attracted the interest of Syrian-born investor Simon Halabi, Hyatt hotels, Italian luxury goods firm Bulgari and Beanie Babes billionaire Ty Warner, who paid £105m for the Four Seasons hotel in Santa Barbara, California. Buckingham Buddy Retiring Soon?
From: Collectiblez
Thanks to a reliable UK retailer friend of mine who shares the following:
I thought you would like to know that my last delivery (last week) did no have any Buckingham buddies in it. I have spoken today to my Ty rep to place my next order and he confirmed that the TY Europe warehouse has no more and there will be no more and the retirement is to be posted any day now - as we now have the Unity buddy (in stock and shipping!!!) it makes sense for Buckingham buddy to now be retired. If you haven't got one yet better hurry before the price goes up!! I have also been able to order Periwinkle beanie BABY, but not the Sunny one - long after retirement and we NEVER had them here in the UK before. All the new Christmas ones are also shipping including the Christmas tree hanging ones. Like they say, hurry up and get yourself a Buckingham Buddy before time runs out! :o)

MBBBW MAGAZINE REFUNDS?
Faith shares the following:
"Dear Lisa,
I was a subscriber of Bean World Magazine and I called for my refund as I had just renewed for two years.  They owed me over $90 and the person on the phone pleasantly stated that the refund would be put in the mail.  Well, as you all know, this was a incorrect statement and no one got any refund.  I think it is unfortunate that companies do this to innocent customers who subscribed "in good faith" that they would carry out their obligation.  I think we need to do a class action suit to recapture what we can." COUNTERFEIT NEWS FROM PEGGY G
Just discovered today..... Counterfeit Sakura, serial # 48GEZ07P ****

Easy way to detect a counterfeit Garcia and Libearty version by examining the tush tag. The tush tag copyright symbol, prior to the year, is missing the little "c" inside the circle. If anyone has a tush tag missing the "c" it is a counterfeit Beanie. All authentic Ty tush tags have the copyright symbol with the little "c" inside the circle. Thank you Sincerely, Peggy Gallagher www.peggyg.com

Plush life for young entrepreneur
When Morgan McHugh launched PuterBabies, a dot-com that sells tiny stuffed animals to sit atop computer monitors, she had no idea about marketing plans, how to find a Webmaster, even what were reasonable shipping and handling prices. Of course, she was only 8 then. Today, the fifth-grader - 11 since Wednesday - has a full product line, a marketing campaign, steady online sales and a speaking circuit that includes giving advice to other, older entrepreneurs - high schoolers.

Morgan started thinking about the business a little more than two years ago when she noticed that people often put Beanie Babies on top of their computers. "I wanted a product that was meant for the computer," she says. So she asked her father for permission to investigate this gaping hole in the market, and then set about trying to find some inexpensive stuffed animals that she could buy in bulk and resell online. They found a company in China that had what they wanted: a selection of 32 animals, about 4 inches in length and cute as a button. Her father came up with $1,000 to order 1,000 animals - the smallest number they could get - and then they started thinking up computer-related names that fit the animals' characters. There's Spam the Pig, Patch the Panda, Pointer the Dog, Surf the Sea Lion, Floppy the Rabbit and Copy the Monkey (get it? Monkey see, monkey do) just to name a few. They also sell a series of computer virus characters that resemble extraterrestrials, each also with a name, including Michelangelo and Melissa. http://www.nando.com/technology/story/126718p-1334235c.html

FOURTH VARIATION OF DIZZY FOUND IN ENGLAND!
From: Smart Collecting
When Dizzy was first introduced on June 1, 2001, he had black spots, black ears and a red collar. Then on June 19, 2001, Dizzy spots changed to blue and purple. His red collar was also replace with a blue and white checked ribbon. On July 20, 2001, Dizzy's ears changed from black to blue and purple to match his colored spot. Now it appears that Dizzy's spots have changed to black but his ears have remained blue and purple. "This Dizzy was found today in a store in Swinton, South Yorkshire in England," reports Helen. This comes quite as a surprise since Dizzy was retired on August 8, 2001! Click below to view photo HERE

U.S. PUBLISHERS OF MARY BETH'S BEAN BAG WORLD FILE FOR BANKRUPTCY!
From: Smart Collecting
H&S Media, the publishers of Mary Beth's Bean Bag World in the United States as well as many other publications, has filed for Bankruptcy in the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division. There will be a meeting of the creditors on November 6, 2001 at 1:30 p.m. The case was filed on August 31, 2001. On July 17, we reported that the managing editor had informed us that the August issue would be their last. Due to the sudden flood of calls from subscribers requesting a refund, they told us that a September issue would be published but it would only be sent to subscribers. Click below to read an email for their Customer Service Department to one of their subscribers. Unfortunately, this was not true and in reality the publishers had no intention of fulfilling this promise and have left subscribers empty handed and loyal writers unpaid. U.S. beanie collectors will now have no other choice but to come to the Internet for information on their favorite collectible. View HERE

HAUNT FOUND WITH RED TUSH TAG!
From: Smart Collecting
Sue from Las Vegas, received a Haunt this week that has a red tush tag instead of the normal white tags. "This one has the number stamped inside and also the hologram but I can't tell if it has the red writing because it would just blend," explains Sue. "The solid side feels almost like vinyl material." This is the first time SmartCollecting has received a report of a red tush tag. Click on the link below to view photos: View HERE

JINGLE BEANIES PHOTOS
From: Ms. Janie
A special thanks to Sue for sharing the following information and for once again taking some great photos. These photos will defiantly give you an idea of the correct size of the Jingle Beanies. I was pleasantly surprised with their size. Ms. Janie

Hi Ms. Janie, Just wanted to enthuse about the Jingle Beanies, which I got in UK yesterday - they are better than you would have hoped! About the height of the teenie beanies, but made of beanie material, so they are fuller, and the scarves, etc, are made out of the original material. Truly excellent value for money! Here are some photos of them, with the beanies and buddies for comparison, and with a teenie beanie to compare size. They have hang tags and holographic tush tags like regular beanies, except the hang tags say 'Jingle Beanies' on the outside, and 'The Jingle Beanie collection' To________ From _________ inside on the right, and the beanie name on the left inside. NEW HOLIDAY BEANIE/BUDDY PHOTOS (beautiful and VERY detailed pictures!!)
From: Ms. Janie
A special thanks to Linda for sharing her fabulous photo's! These are a must see, there are incredibly clear and well taken. Ms. Janie

Dear Ms. Janie: I have been so fortunate to find some of the new holiday Ty, and want to share them with you. The 1997 Holiday Teddy buddies are my favorite so far, they just look terrific in plush fur. In the group picture, there is an XL, L, and reg buddy and 1997 Holiday beanie. The new 2001 Holiday teddy is difficult to take a picture of as he is so dark, he has very shiny fur, different in feel and texture to anything Ty has put out, although the tag does say it is Tylon. If you need me to send these pictures to you separately, I will be glad to, otherwise this will come via zip. You have my permission to use these pictures for the benefit of other beanie lovers, my handle name is on all of them. One comment I can make regarding the Jinglepup, he has wonderful details, his feet are very large, oversized, just as a large breed puppy's is, and his paw pads match his nose. He wears a red collar, and the hat decoration is green but not quite the same color as the 2001 Holiday Teddy, although a similar material. I'll try to send more pics as the new Holiday items appear. Thanks for all you do, Linda/from Oklahoma http://www.msjanie.com/typhotos/2001_holiday_bear_set.html

ASK TY
From: Ms. Janie
The Ask Ty section of Ty's website has a new answer
Question. How did TY begin ? (submitted by Sam V)
Answer. I felt that if I wanted to start my own company I would have to design and manufacture a unique well-made gift item that didn’t already exist in the marketplace. In 1985 I took out a 2nd mortgage on my 2-bedroom condo in order to purchase my first shipment. What followed . . . . even surprised me ! ! http://www.ty.com/askty/askty.cfm

WHERE THE MONEY GOES
From: Ms. Janie
A special thanks to Andree for her investigative work on the following:
Rosie O'Donnell, Sandra Bullock, and Julia Roberts have all donated one million dollars to The American Red Cross. Many companies have donated money and other products and services. For a listing of many corporate donations to the Red Cross, check out http://www.redcross.org/sponsors/corporatelist.html

Of course, Ty is listed there, with his America Beanie Baby. Other companies have donated such things as cell phones, phone cards, canned water, gasoline, computers, SUVs, clothing, print advertisements, radio advertisements.

It's important to know how money is used when it is donated. The Red Cross covers many needs in the aftermath of this disaster, see http://www.redcross.org/press/disaster/ds_pr/010925famsupport.html

The least impressive amount, in my opinion, donated by another company, Citigroup is 15 million dollars. Sure, that sounds good. But only after tracking down where there donation went and how it's being used does one discover the truth. The amount is being distributed by their own in-house organization in the form of post-secondary college scholarships that do have requirements and qualifications. This is of little use to the needs of the people right now. Food, shelter, clothing, medical care take precedence. http://www.citigroup.com/citigroup/relieffund/

KNOW who you are donating to and where the funds go! Andree

Kids Donate Favorite Toys
From: Beanieholics
While adults give blood and money, some Connecticut children have found their own way to help victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks by donating their favorite toys to those who have lost a parent. ''I'm a boy, so I thought that what I would like, they would like, so I just put stuff in there that I like", said Logan Thompson, age 12.
''I love Beanie Babies and I have a lot.'' Click Here For Story

NEW BUDDY PICTURES
From: Ms. Janie
I just snapped a quick shot of the new Buddies. They are really pretty especially the 2001 Holiday Bear. He is like Berber carpet but the usual soft fabric and he has green sparkly threads kind of like the Halo II buddy running through his fabric. Sue/QB http://www.msjanie.com/typhotos/holidaybuddies.html

Planet Beans Comments: Now that I've seen actual pictures I want the new 1997 Holiday Teddy Buddies even more. LOL I can't wait to see the 2001 Holiday Teddy in person. Looks rather interesting from the pictures.

AMERICA ON WGN - CHICAGO
From: Ms. Janie
Turned on our local Chicago WGN news this am about 8:30am, and they were tossing around an America bear. No tag protector, Oh, my. Their info about the bear wasn't quite correct. They made it sound like the one up for auction on Ebay, that is signed by TY, would sell for a million. I think they meant that the America bear would raise at least a million for the Red Cross. I don't know if they were showing it all morning, as I came in on the last half hour of the news. During the weather segment, America was dancing around at the camera, with Paul Conrad doing the weather in the background. On another note. I was amazed at how fast my Mom received her TY MasterCard. As she doesn't have a computer, I gave her the phone number to call. She received her card in less than a week. Using the computer, mine took about a month. Wonder if others have had the same experience? Jane IL

Florida Toy Distributor Strikes Back Against Terrorism (PR Newswire)
From: Ms. Janie
When Florida toy distributor Jay Kamhi heard the devastating news on September 11th, he immediately turned his anger into action and started manufacturing magnetic American flags for automobiles. His goal was to rally Americans and raise money for disaster relief organizations by selling a USA flag to every automobile owner in America. It seems to have worked -- stores have gobbled up nearly 200,000 pieces the first week. (www.magnetflag.com) ``The first thing my wife did when she heard the news was cry,'' said Kamhi, owner of JDK Products in Clearwater, Florida. ``Then she left the office and bought $200 worth of flags and put them all over our house. She wanted to put flags on our cars but could not find anything in the stores. I decided right then that I would be the one to make magnetic car flags for Americans and that 10% of my proceeds would go to help the victims of this tragedy.'' The flags are now being sold by Home Depot as well as many other chains. They not only magnetically attach to automobiles, but also refrigerators, file cabinets, and lockers. The consumer response has been universally positive, and stores are selling out of the flags as fast as they receive them. http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/011002/nyfnsn04_1.html

New 'America' Beanie Baby Will Help Victims
Becky shares the following:
The Associated Press OAK BROOK, Ill. (Sept. 26) - Beanie Babies will soon be doing their part to help the victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Ty Inc. said it is introducing the ''America'' Beanie Baby, with all the profits going to the American Red Cross. Ty has pledged at least $1 million from the sale of the blue bear with the American flag on its chest, but the company expects the donation will be far larger. Following Princess Diana's death, the company introduced a Beanie Baby Princess, which raised $21 million for the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund. The company said the ''America'' Beanie Baby will be sold around the world and would start appearing in stores as early as this week. AP-NY-09-26-01 1539EDT Copyright 2001 The Associated Press. New Heroes Become Hot Toys
From: Bean eWonderland
Violence that once seemed like make-believe to children has suddenly become all too real. As a result, playing with characters that save lives instead of destroy them is quickly gaining popularity. The ground zero heroes — firefighters and police officers — are the models kids want to emulate these days. And parents are stocking up on make-believe rescue workers instead of toy soldiers

A cuddlier line of collectibles is also adding an altruistic member to its family. Ty Inc. said it will introduce the "America" Beanie Baby as early as this week, with all the profits going to the American Red Cross.

The company has pledged at least $1 million from the sale of the new blue bear with the American flag on its chest, but the company expects the donation to be even larger. Following Princess Diana's death, the company introduced a Beanie Baby Princess, which raised $21 million for the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund. Full Story:

Marisa's room
From: Bean eWonderland
A man's home might be his castle, but a kid's dominion is confined to her room. Most of her life she spends in an adult-dominated world, ordered to pick that up and put this there. But in her room, she calls the shots. Like most kids, Marisa is a collector. Rocks, seashells, Beanie Babies, trolls, crystal figurines, dolls, Breyer horses, currencies, stamps, stuffed animals. And, like most kids, she doesn't have enough room to display them all. Her solution is to rotate her collections to give her room a different look. This summer, she's been in a feminine mode, with stuffed animals, Beanie Babies and American Girl dolls on display. Peeking down from the top of her canopy bed are the zillions of Beanie Babies she's been collecting since kindergarten. Full Story:

Fortunes trimmed by attack slump
From: Ms. Janie
The terrorist attacks took a huge bite out of the net worth of the country's super rich. Forbes Magazine compiled its list of the country's 400 wealthiest Americans on Aug. 27 and then factored in the big market slump through Sept. 24 - after the attacks had occurred. The losses are massive: The world's wealthiest man, Microsoft founder Bill Gates, lost $7.2 billion in that month, knocking him down to $46.8 billion. Paul Allen, his former partner in Microsoft, lost $4 billion. Oracle's Larry Ellison took a cut of $3.4 billion. Warren Buffett and Sumner Redstone each lost $2.8 billion. Michael Dell of Dell computer lost $1.6 billion and Ted Turner dropped $1.4 billion. Shirts off their backs Since Sept. 11, employees of Graphic Elements in Aurora have printed patriotic T-shirts and caps almost 24 hours a day - at times using volunteers. To date, they've printed and embroidered more than 120,000 shirts and caps, which the company is selling at King Soopers stores throughout the metro area. Don Hendricks of Graphic Elements said he expects to write a check to the Clear Channel Relief Fund for more than $700,000 when the fundraiser is complete. Beanies pitch in Even Beanie Babies are pitching in to help after the terrorist attacks. Ty Inc. is creating a new Beanie Baby called "America." It'll be a blue bear with an American flag on its chest. Ty is pledging at least $1 million for victims of the attacks, but the Beanie could bring a lot more. After Princess Diana's death, the company's Beanie Baby Princess raised $21 million for charity. http://www.denverpost.com/Stories/0,1002,33%257E162960,00.html
