OverviewIn Series 1 of the Beanie Babies Official Club Trading Cards, there are a total of 149 cards, 8 different "Slider Cards", and 8 different puzzle cards. The single packs of the trading cards retail for about $2.00 and contain approximately 9 cards, (although some may contain as many as 14) a puzzle card, and a series 1 checklist that has only the names of the common cards listed on it.

The Slider Cards:  which measure approximately 5 by 7 inches, are included in every full box of trading cards and feature the same "theme" as the eight different puzzle cards.

Puzzle Cards
one comes in each package of trading cards. (sometimes you get lucky and get two!) The puzzle cards have the same "theme" as the Slider cards, but there is one card considered the "No Name" card which features the dogs on one side and a tropical scene on the other side.

Cards 1 through 9 are the "Original 9" cards

Cards 1 through 9 are the "Original 9" cards. These are called "clear cards" because they are made of a clear acetate material. The Original 9 cards feature the original 9 beanies and come in four color levels; red, blue, silver, and gold. The color level is determined by the words "Original 9" in the upper left hand corner of the card. These cards will all be numbered on the right hand side indicating which number card it is out of the number that were produced. Please note however that there were a few of these cards produced without numbers, but these are considered "errors". The original 9 cards are:  Chocolate the Moose, Cubbie the Bear, Flash the Dolphin, Legs the Frog, Patti the Platypus, Pinchers the Lobster, Splash the Orca Whale, Spot the Dog, and Squealer the Pig.

Retired cards
are numbered 10 through 24 and also come in four different color levels; red, blue, silver, and gold. In this set, the only ones that will be numbered are the gold cards. (and there were even some gold ones produced without numbers in this set) The color level of the retired cards is determined by the emblem on the right hand side of the card that says "Retired". Below is an example of what the different color levels look like. The most highly sought after card in this category is by far Peanut the Royal Blue Elephant with Zip the Black Cat running second.

The Birthday/Rookie Cards
are numbered 25 through 49 and also come in the four color levels; red, blue, silver, and gold, with golds being the only numbered cards in this set. The color level on these cards is determined by the name of the beanie written on the left hand side of the card. The red and blue cards have the name written in a "foil" type print with the top of the name being either red or blue, fading out to gold (on the red) or silver (on the blue) toward the bottom of the name.  The silver and gold cards are strictly silver or gold in the name. (no other color will be visible) The hardest ones to find in this set appear to be Tabasco the Bull, Kiwi the Toucan, and Lizzy the Ty-Dyed Lizard which are commanding premium prices on the secondary market in all color levels.

Autographed Cards:
Ty Warner himself personally autographed one of each of the trading cards. When you take into consideration that there are four color levels of Original 9, Retireds, and Birthday cards, then that means there are 296 total cards that have Ty Warner's signature. To date, not ALL of them have shown up yet, which means there are still autographed cards from Series 1 still floating around somewhere just waiting to be discovered!

OOPS!
Cyrk made several printing errors on some of the cards. These cards were not intended to get out into circulation, but with the volume of cards that were being printed and packaged, some of the error cards have shown up in packs of cards. Some of these included unnumbered gold cards or original 9 cards, cards that appeared to have been cut wrong showing more than one card, and several with the name of one beanie on the front and a different one on the back. Buyers on the secondary market have paid premium prices on some of these oddities, while others consider these errors to devalue the cards to an extent that they are almost worthless.  All that really matters is what someone is willing to pay.
